in regards to brushless motors etc etc
Orbit ran flawlessly with is this event, the only issue was in the bender match where it wouldnt start which later was discovered to be one of the motor wires disconnected from the connector, i re-soldered it and it worked fine for the demo and bouncing Tims 5kg robot off 3 walls
In short i know some people are still very hesitant but i had no issues with my setup _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

yersh demon would have gone well i think had the belt tension been less but still a bit wierd that the motor demagnetised itself. in any case time for series wound goodness _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

NIB magnets are only good up to 80° or so from memory. _________________ The Engine Whisperer

There are various ratings up to 150 deg. C - chances are that the cheaper motors don't use the higher temp magnets.

don't know why you all have so many problems with the blue inrunner, its like the only thing that hasn't broken in misfortune lol if only everything else was as reliable hmm _________________ Barton Robotics Youtube Channel:

Its that fantastic motor mount, no doubt

if it goes over that temp it will loose its magnetism, but it should come back when it cools off again as i recall.
I dunno if the inside of the inrunner is actually nib, i have a sneaking suspicion its actually iron. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

No, its permanent . I overheated a salvaged hard disk magnet once and afterwards it was totally demagnetised. Apparently they can lose part of their magnetism if they are only heated briefly of only *just* to the threshold temp.

lol you could probably do more with a fridge magnet however.
Andrew had no problems (solder joint failing has nothing to do with the brushless). _________________ Remember to trust me, I am an Engineer.

yeah well heres what happened to all mine
first motor demagnetised. it would never run at full power till you jiggled the throttle back off and on whereas the spare motor did - so i suspect a crapped out winding or few in the first motor to be the problem there.
it overheated so badly it demagnetised the motor and melted all the glue holding the magnet and end caps to the shaft so the shaft also pulled out and smashed into the disk
the spare motor worked good until the front bearing siezed it looks like (havent had much of a look tbh) and in the last fight with black and white the motor worked good until the shaft pulled out again and bent it.
so yeah. if you want to use them you need some ultra efficient transmission setup or youll be burning them out everywhere. back to pmdc with me
