Where would I get?

Where do people recommend getting something like 40mm aluminium plate cut?

I need to get the Aluminium plate as well, currently looking at about 400mm to a side with a large internal cutout.

I got some Trigger wheels and bits made here - http://profilecutting.com.au/
A very reasonable price, and good service.

The steel ones rock,. beautiful work. The 10mm thick aluminium ones were a little ragged on the edges - I guess Aluminium is harder to laser cut.. probably because of its thermal conductivity and tendency to all melt at once.. Smile

They did have a "high accuracy" option for the parts where I guess they take more care, cut slower or something, but I didnt take that option (more $).

Laser cutting doesn't really work in thick material, that place only quotes up to 8mm thickness in aluminium. Finding 40mm thick plate in what's basically cut-to-size pieces in Australia might be a challenge; the exchange rate is crap, but it might work out better to buy & cut the material in the US. You can get exactly the right size material and a place like Whyachi has a high velocity waterjet that will give minimal taper. I had some stuff cut by DC Waterjet and the edges were so rough they were unusable.

You can probably sell the ali in the hole to other forum members.

We are planning on machining the part after its cut, it needs some decent accuracy bits and a few holes.
I'll have to see what wyachi would want to do the whole job.

I know a couple of places that do wirecutting, which could be a nice way to do it.

I had a tapered bore cut into a sprocket and it turned out really nicely.

You dont 'trust bunnings' what does that mean XD
There's heaps of metal place in melbourne. 2mm plate would be easy as to find. Heck I think there's even a scrap yard next to sidetracked Laughing Wonder if you could 'borrow' something from there.

I could have given you some at the builders meet.

There is an engineering place down the road from me they throw out 500x500 sheets of the stuff now and then.
