I keep asking Andrew if the plate for the crash panels and the frame work for the corners and door have been ordered yet and he keeps saying "he'll do it tomorrow". I hope its ordered today otherwise we won't have it for the weekend.
No one else us put up their hands for hole drilling duties yet.

*edit* Steel has been ordered and we'd get at least the door and corner peices before te weekend. It has been decided that the corner L-bracket will be welded to one wall panel and then then bolted to the other. That we we won't have to worry about bolts interfering. This is also handy if the door is in the corner.

How the crash panels are welded on


8mm gap between the crash panel and the frame. The 6mm polycarb will fit in the gap. This is so the bottom edge of the polycar will be protected from veterical spinners.

We are about 50% through the construction. Still need help. Next weekend with will be working on the roof trusses.

I am still a little concerned about the less than flat concrete at the venue? You’re sure it will bolt together OK on the convex surface.

We are thinking of running those big sleepers you donated from the middle of one side to the other as a main beam and then running lengths of 2x4 across from the other 2 walls to meet it. I think we'd need 5 of these on each side. Roof panels will then screw up from the underside into the 2x4. We have already started fighting about weather we need to set the arena up to do this. Andrew says no and I say yes. But we don't own any wood cutting tools and have never built anything like that before so we are slightly unsure what we are doing. That has been the case with the entire arena so far and its turning out pretty well.

You might consider joining the sleepers end to end and then bolting plates on either side to join them. Roofing batons might be a better choice to span 2.5 m unsupported as opposed to 2*4s.

You Might also like to look at C and Z purlins http://www.stratco.com.au/products/steel_framing/types/c_z_purlins/c_z_purlins.asp My shed uses (from memory) 200 mm C purlins that span 6 m with 60 mm roof battens that span 3 m. You might be able to have a quick look at a flat roof carport and see if you want to copy that.
