ive been workin on this like crazy for the past few days
all i need to do now is pick up my new belt tomorrow (i hate belt calculators), cut down the shell to the right height and weld the teeth on. oh, and make a little self-righter thingo if i feel like drilling 8mm holes through case-hardened steel >__>
thanks rob the pulley is great

enjoy!

looking good.. though didn't realise the shell was so thin Confused
what you could try, when you cut the shell to the right height keep the rings you cut off and cut a gap in them and weld them to the inside of the shell.. that way you'll have double the thickness around where most of the force will be Razz

A full body spinner for a first bot, gutsy effort, looking good, only suggestion make sure the batteries secure, when you do a mauler they will put the brakes on if they can get between the works and the shell.

The shell can stop and the insides spin etc.

Only concerns I have is your going to place a fair amount of stress on the motor shaft and bearings to tension that V belt up enough for it not to slip all the time. I believe Mack had the same issues with Sunshine.

No, 2 cans im sorry. But if anyone wants them it's your prerogative how you use them.
Imagine Demon or Scissorhands a nice bright green.......

Now I think of it, both Demon and Scissorhands have a red/black colour scheme - I never noticed they were the same before.

How about you paint the bot in vertical stripes or orange & green - it will go brown when you spin up! Laughing

event report time Smile

hurricane did quite well actually, aside from a few basic problems it managed to hit quite hard and when it was working it would drive really fast.

my main problems were that the sabretooth kept shutting down and it was a suspected low-voltage cutoff kicking in, one that I found ou that I could disable on the Sunday night. Lets just hope that was it and that i dont have to do anything else.
I didnt have time to do it befor the event but some sort of self-righter is in the works, gotta try and think of a design that wont damage the shaft too much.
I also had one battery pack crap out on me and I figure it is a loose solder joint as it would stop working as soon as it was clamped down.
ill also be bending the front drive mount plate down abit because the shaft is in at a slight angle so my shell was rubbing the floor.
other upgrades include an AX20 belt, washers for the brushless bolts, redoing my led case and painting the shell.

Im also considering putting needle roller bearings in the pulley instead of bushings because after this 2-day event its already loose on the shaft and it will proably only last one more event. i found the part on spd-si but i cant seem to find the part number so i can get them from the place angus got his. if they fail like raptures situation then im sure i can get a thicker bushing or figure something out with normal ball bearings.

I probably should do something about hardening/strengthening the front of my teeth so they dont get mashed up too much Razz

all in all it was a great weekend and it was a pleasure to finally meet everyone and to have everones support when things went wrong.

I'll be doing a SDPSI order this week, let me know if you want your bearings thrown in on my order.

took hurricane for it's first test since robowars and I have to say it's not looking too good. the test really highlighted my off-balance shell and the shaft on a sligt angle because the shell was almost always hitting the ground, I shall get around to fixing these problems soon.
but the worst part was that once at full speed it would stay there until I turned right(incresing shell speed) and then the brushless would slow down so I would stop turning but still the brushless would slow down until it was spinning realllly slow even though I had the stick on full throttle. this meant I had to ramp up the throttle a few times to get it going again which is what happened when I thought the belt was slipping at robowars :/
I have no idea what the problem is but I suspect something like the motor going out of sync or it just heating up.
also the bushing was almost seized on the shaft(by the end of the run it wouldn't even spinup and was hard to turn by hand) and the whole assembly was really hot so im starting to reconsider this needle roller idea.
and I think I ran it for a bit over 5mins
the drive seems to all work fine now and didn't cut out during this whole brushless issue. it randomely wouldn't turn on the other day so I removed it from he chassis and took of all of the hot glue isolating the board and it started working again.
I also found the broken solder joint in one of my batt packs so it's all good Smile
