Never give up on a dream! On the other hand there are no other active HW bots to compete against in Oz and no arenas rated to contain them, so add in the shipping costs to take it to the USA
In the featherweight class, you ge to compete against ALL the builders in Australia and yo can still think about taking your bot to the US or the UK. I can personally vouch for the HUGE adrenaline rush you get for going over to fight in the US!
BTW: When I discovered this crazy bunch of anarchist bot builders about 5 years ago, I hardly slept for 3 days - how you doing?

Still awake aren't I? lol.. well maaaaayyyyyyybeeeeeee when reality eventually hits me ill tone the bot down to something not so heavy. But still i want to get it done as a heavyweight. Whats the weight limit for whatever is under heavyweight? maybe if i replace my big wheels for something not so over the top it will be ok? Either that or its going to end up and a really well armoured gokart haha

Yeah, armour plated EV go-kart! The difference between a HW and a FW is rather huge, not sure you can ever convert one into the other.

Hi welcome
There is a bit of interest in big bots for of road all terrain more tasks oriented longer run time rather than arena fighting.
Was called OzBot outdoor and Ultibots in the past.
We have our old prototype heavy BullDoze running and set up for negotiating the back yard at the moment.
George is often working and testing his tracked bots in his back yard.
Andrew is building a new bot and Matt and Neweyn were thinking about it last we talked about it.
The lightweight 60LB class is mostly no spinner even though its 3 minute arena fights, luggage limits on air travel and cost of thicker pollycarb for arenas have limited lightweights to the point where there is a good argument that were better of concentrating on the 30lb featherweights. [13.63kg] and give up on the 60lb lightweights.
There is one Heavy in Qld Vertex An IC spinner lacking drive electronics I think.
Bulldoze looks pretty cool. I would say my bot is about the same size, but the wheels are not so revealed as I had originally intended to have it fighting. Who knows what will happen with it. I finished most of the frame and armour building last night, just need to put in the motors and the rest of the electronics (I have measured up the amount of space they will take up). now for the expensive part..l buying the electronics
Will be posting pics soon

Yeah, Sidewinder would be a good starting point for a low powered heavyweight due to the current limiting and onboard features, but it's still a AUD$600 by the time you get one shipped here, and that's if you don't get hit with customs tax _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

haha next economic boom im buying up on sidewinders was going to suggest a vantec but just looked at the price and nearly fell off my chair.
victors are probably the cheapest option. you can usually find a 2nd hand pair floating about on the american forum. im sure the 883s would probably handle 750s. think sewer snake runs magmotors off them anyway. you should probably check that though
sounds good. get some pictures of it up. one day ill get round to a heavyweight. as impractical as they are nothing will beat the sheer size and awesome power of a heavy IMHO two heavyweights smashing each other into he side of the arena would be so awesome / scary.

Maybe a pair of
Oatley 24v 500watt
motors would be a cheaper substitute for Bosch 750's, run them on 36v and you'll have around 1100watts from them. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

The heavyweight is no more I have just decided to turn it into a mower motor powered gokart lol, which should be a bit of fun, and make a smaller version of the origional into a featherweight. going to be a tough next month or so getting it all together but i should be able to pull it off *if i have enough time*
-waves goodbye to the dream of a heavyweight- too bad its so damn expensive!

At least your realising it before you spend a lot of time and effort to get half way there and realise it's not worth doing. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

Doesn’t have to be expensive, a wheelchair based bot at stock 24volts running an IBC fan cooled will work as good as a lot of early Robot Wars UK bots.
OK for doing demos.
Building anything remotely competitive with overseas Heavy these days would be potentially expensive.
Haven’t even speculated on the possibility of a competitive heavy for years. _________________ Satisfaction is proportional to effort and results.

home made go carts are awesome,
this is my one:
atm running a 160cc 4 stroke motor in it, hunting around for a cheap 200cc - 250cc 2 stroke though _________________ Barton Robotics Youtube Channel:
