I don't have one of those motors, but its not likely to have a stepped down shaft at the front. The photo make it look like both ends of the shaft are the same diameter and there wouldn't be a good reason to step down the 6mm shaft.

It could be that the circlip groove has distorted the shaft a bit so that it won't press out thru the front bearing. Stupid question, does the bell have another grub screw that need loosening? The larger out-runners over here mostly have 2 screws. If the shaft won't budge with gentle persuasion, Its time to get serious with a press brake!

Hey Nick. Yeah maybe I im imagining the step, cos it seemed silly to me as well. I couldnt get my verniers in there to confirm it. But it kinda looked like there was one. Maybe i can grind or machine it down a tad around the circlip groove

I've checked for a 2nd screw, can't see any...

Sadly I dont have a press brake (i was pressing on it with some round bar mounted in my drill press chuck) but I can always belt the crapsalad out of it with a hammer if I decide it's either that or write it off Smile

There was indeed, I removed it. The groove Nick was referring to was where the circlip was.

Anyway still trying to get the bulk of the robo renovations done so I've put the L5055A aside for the moment.

So today, cool new top plates made, L5055A weapon motor swapped out for the spare with flat ground onto shaft for the grub screw, with some extra mounting tabs on the frame, new mounting solution for the drive ESC's and power switch that provides a small measure of shock mounting, repainted the frame and the disc, and some of the wiring done. Not bad for 8 hours at the rate I work. Pics to follow

My god, so much dust and cobwebs in here... what the hell is wrong with me

Anyway for those in the know Hammerhead is going to be retired due to attrition of frame damage. Here's the design for the replacement Beetleweight, pretty much got it sorted I think now, always wanted to do this design even though it has it's drawbacks

and because I know Steve misses my pen and paper drawings,

Frame and side armour will all be 1mm Ti, internal components will be housed in a 3d printed box, hoping to get my modified planetary gearmotors going for drives, and weapon discs are 6mm 'bullet steel' 78mm diameter single tooth driven by 180W 2210 brushlesseses.

Havent got a name yet but i keep thinking of scorpions

Hehe, now that's some nostalgia in robot form! I remember you posting that design up. Smile I think your biggest risk is those belts getting eaten, maybe run em round some kind of idler to keep them out of the path of nomm'd robots. Smile

Yeah, this is true, I'll see if I can work that into it. I'd love to have made sexy hub motors like Glen, but I rack disiprine.

Interesting, rubber tyres to bounce them around? Never seen that, could be amusing
