I think sponsors would be pretty happy with a POV display Laughing that would be a real selling point.

I was thinking about the POV display that Trebor the Mad Overlord make for Totally Offensive - built right into the spinning bar! He manages to get very readable text working on it (and I get a mention.Laughing )

After it blows up a bunch of magmotors and snaps an $800 titanium bar I'll put FAIL on it all the time Cool

$800? Shocked I think they are barely $200. Since I discovered stress risers, I don't think anyone will be snapping a Ti bar any time soon - Bender gave it a good try up in Brisbane and the deepest gouge is barely 3mm deep Laughing

Coming down to Battleshed this year?

hey guys, time for an update, weve finally setled on a beater design, and so far we have gathered together 2 250kv 3000W rated brushless outrunners for weapon drive, and Bad Habbit Hobbies, have kindly donated 2 castle creations 110A HV brushless esc's (HV is high voltage, upto 50V =) ), we also have some bosh worm drive motors that we intent to use as drive, however i suspect they may be a bit slow but i am yet to test them at 40v, any other suggestions of motor a gearbox combos that will run happily at this voltage? i was thinking of asking the local tool suppliers if they could get us some 36v dewalt drill motors. We went back in to see the guys at Had Habbit Hobbies again today to see about getting some A123's and charger, but we spent 2 hrs trying to find a wholesale supplier, and we could not find them anyware!!!! does anyone have any suggestions? even for overseas suppliers, and yes we did try master instruments but they are permanently out of stock =(
also i have begun teaching myself how to use Rhino our very first, not to scale prototype, can be seen on our myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/team_enforcer. )http://www.myspace.com/team_enforcer (soz i couldnt work out how to post the image)
oh btw the video on the myspace is of our test bot to see if our idea of vacuming the bot to the floor will work, still unsure if this is a good idea, especially after angus told me the floor is pretty manky

looks pretty good!

whats the vacuum sucker made from?

as for your brushless dont even waste the weight on the pair of them. just use one at their correct voltage. 3000 watts is absolutely massive. you'll need at least 2x a123 packs in parallel just to run it if it geniunly does put out that much power.

my 1300 watt one peaks out a single pack after a few spinups.

keep up the good work Cool

the vacumme in the vid is just a pc fan with a 540 motor bolted in , it slotted strait in no fabrication required =) =) if we go ahead with the fan in the bot we will use a ducted fan rated for 50'000 revs and just put a motor with a lower KV in it, aiming for somthing like 8000-9000 revs so that itll have the tourque to turn the fan even after it starts to form a vacuume
the logic behind the two brushless motors is that once the weapon is up to full speed, the motors will be pulling FAR less current and therefore run cooler and more efficiently, a motor and esc togother only weigh like 600-700g anyway, can allways simply remove it if its getting near the weight limit.
At this stage were planning on running 2 x13cell A123 packs in parallel =) many many volts

I'd agree with Glen, 3KW is overkill - you would be OK with something in the 500W to 750W range for a beater. Even when it is spinning up, my beater only uses 440W and around 300 once it is up to speed.

The frame design looks good, it should take plenty of punishment.

That's 1.82Kg of cells, so your packs will be around 2Kg with wiring and covering. That's a rather large pack and your not going to need that much unless the beater needs WAY more power than the other ones I have seen recently.
