will it be able to handle a 300 watt scooter motor? or should I attach some DC solenoids to them to make them more powerful?

Rip off, you'd be better off with something much smaller and big relays you tack on yourself. If you can do it right, you could get away with a $3 servo and a switch to relay setup. _________________ ( •_•)
could use one of those if you rig it up with limit switches so that stick down is retract the weapon until it hits a limit switch then with the stick up itll extend till it hits the next one.
cant remember what your weapon is anymore haha (i think its a claw or some such) but and IBC would fit the bill pretty well with the AUX hi and low outputs to run the claw + do the speed controlling. _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

Before you invest all the money though, just try it with a servo and switches, you can't exactly blow up 100's of dollars of electonics then, and for a first robot you'll be making a LOT of changes after its first event... _________________ ( •_•)
Hehe, I just sent my bot of the roof of he carport, its 3 metres high and the bot landed on solid concrete! Having not purchased the electronics I just wired the drive onto a battery and let it drive off the edge! On the first "drop" the bot landed upside-down on the claw and bent it sideways - not too much, it would still function as a weapon - and rolled right way up and drove off! On the second drop the bot landed on its side and the chassis completely changed shape, It is made out of square tubing bolted together, the bolts lost it, and the bot ended up as a mess! I think I am going to weld it now. Oxy-acetylene would work on steel tubing right? because that's the only type of welding that I can use on a regular basis.
And don't worry, if I get owned in my first match, then there's all the more tinkering to be done!

Oxy should be fine. I havn't seen any pics of your frame yet, but a general idea is to weld in some gusset plates around the corners, they improve the strength dramatically for relatively little weight.

turning back to electronics, has anyone tried this oatleys kit?
http://secure.oatleyelectronics.com//product_info.php?cPath=94&products_id=206
It looks like it would make a good weapons controller for my bot, and maybe as a drive controller for when (not if) I blow my sabertooth. The 4 extra mosfets looks like a good option.

Yeah, Im still up. Watching the ashes! here is my final purchase list for electronics. the sabertooth probably won't arrive before the event next weekend so I won't have an active robot there.
Sabertooth 2X25 $125
2x hobbyking ss 70A $40
turnigy accucel-6 charger $35
hobbyking 6ch tx & rx $33
(all prices USD)
I am also getting a servo tester and a huge brushless motor, because I've always wanted one!

I made my hobbycity purchase on tuesday with airparcel shipping, so I am not going to be optimistic about my chances of having everything here in time, if its ok I'll pm you on friday if my stuff arrives to organise the borrowing of a sabertooth.
What I am thinking though, Does anyone have a used XXL or sabertooth that they can sell? because besides saving a few bucks, I'll at least get a wedge to the next event!
