hmmm...

But they never seem to quite match the quality of the original. Might still make an effort for this one and watch it in the cinema tho.

The trailer looks fairly promising; I hope they have a reasonable storyline and not just make it a CGI festival

Well, the original 1982 storyline was nothing earth shattering, and it is Disney, who arent exactly masters of subtlety when it comes to stories.

However, the general feeling out there seems to be that the people in charge of the making arent the sort to be likely to produce a simple/dumb plot, as long as they can get it past the boardroom seatwarmers.

Personally, I think its the *concept* that made TRON special. The whole idea of living beings physically transformed into a computer simulation of themselves was the mind blowing bit back in '82.. the "life inside the computer" thing.

So I'm hoping they pull off something similairly ground breaking, rather than just an intricate storyline with the usual "bit of everything for everyone" formula (love interest, bad vs good guy, mystery, action etc).

With all the "Internet Life" these days, Bot Nets, Virii, Firewalls, P2PNets, Online MMPORG Games, and so on, there are plenty of possibilities for some clever conceptual visualisations of the infamous "Cyberspace" world rather than a relatively standard "story" with people in funny suits and CGI backgrounds.

The only problem with my hope is that a lot of that sort of stuff would probably go over the head of 80% of the population who arent used to visualising the virtual world, so if they're aiming for mass market appeal rather than geek appeal, they're more likely to stick to stuff that makes sense to joe average. boy program meets girl program, fights the evil system, wins the day, and kiss under a digital moon (Which then explodes for no adequately explained reason - just to mix movies a bit Wink )

Still, the (excellent, reccomended) PC Game "Tron 2.0" had a lot of subtle stuff in there that would likely have only been noticed by umm "senior" Wink PC users, so I'm hopeful.. how many joe averages would recognise the graphics representing the read/write heads of a floppy drive seeking over disk tracks, or reconfiguring the DTR/DSR lines of a serial port and vintage stuff like that ? If you keep your eyes open, the Tron 2.0 game is full of clever references to computers through the ages..

Anyway.. At least they're giving it a go Smile

It looks like they might be 2 wheel hydraulic drive, perhaps good for a drag bike with that huge contact patch.

To be honest the original is 10 times better as the story and characters are better. Looks amazing but it 's just not that amazing a movie compared to the first one.

True, the original story was far better but some of the effects in the movie look incredibly cheesy & dated. If they could come up with a more inspirational story line I'd definitely go see a 3rd instalment.

Sorry that I'm digging this thread out. Just was searching on the movie and saw that some people have already started a thread on it. Was wondering what everyone's opinion on the tech units in the show are now that it's officially aired! Wouldn't it be cool to incorporate some of this design stuff into life now?
