Control

I'm planning to build a robot on which all four wheels rotate a full 360 degrees, The easiest control interface would naturally be one of those car type controllers with the dial on them, just wondering if any of the models available (preferably in 2.4ghz) allow the steering dial to rotate a full 360 continuously? Or could be modified to do so?

No the dials don't turn full 360 degrees as far as I know thought you may be able to mod it to do so. But do you really need full 360 degree motion you could always just map the partial turn to full 360 degrees.

I was hoping for one to one mapping, the robot is going to be a full body spinner, I planned to have four different coloured running lights on the base that correspond to markings on the dial, so that I have some idea which way the robot is pointing even if it gets knocked around.

I would worry about the 1:1 mapping after you get the robot built, it should be possible to hack.

More important question is how are you going to get the motors to point in an absolute direction? That is the real control problem.
