Actually Kyle Singer will be driving the ant and beatle meltys....

While he's never driven one, I'm sure he'll figure it out quick, faqst and in a hurry.

I usually end up pulling an all nighter then I stumble into an event and make an arse out of myself...lol

Hopefully another guy will drive Sting, the 12 melty and It Stings, if they get done in time..

I just want to sit back and play pit crew...no pressure...kindof..

A good customer of mine donated the chunk of alu...after I told him that I was broke...(true)

Just got back and recovering from the Franklin event.

My bots were unprepared, so out of 5, I withdrew the 2 drumbots.

The ant took 3rd, the beatle took 2nd and the 12 had a reverse polarity meltdown when preparing for its second match.

We did win the Franklin Cup tho...an award for most innovative robot design and the only actual trophy given out.

The future of brushless Melty is lookin good.

Some video is on the tube, but look for the match between our 12 (Double Trouble) and Surgical Strike...it was a very close call loss and the arena kickboard got severely damaged by our 12.

The next big event will be Motorama in February. I hope to attend and if so, I will have the bots well tuned and prepared.

Check out this video of my 12 pound melty

Notice that SS has a blue light at the back of the bot

with 10 seconds left in the match the light goes out and SS isn;t moving

Looks like that should have been a knockout to me ??

You're right, the light does go out, but within 10 seconds of the end of the match they can't call it fairly. What happened with yours?

I would easily give that to Surgical Strike in my opinion.

I don't know what the immobility rules are in the USA but in Britain if your robot becomes immobile, you have 30 seconds to try to regain control or power (somehow) before you are declared eliminated. Since there were only 10 seconds remaining before the end of the battle, Surgical Strike should be considered as potentially mobile.

Additionally, your robot fails to demonstrate controlled translation for about half the match. Based on watching only a video and not actually being there, it appears you are unable to move your robot towards your opponent in a controlled attacking sense. Again there are variations in international rules, but over here you would have been counted out long before the end of the match.

All that aside, your 12lber looks lovely and the first impact was awesome Cool

lol yeah, the translation one seemed to translate towards the opponent once then spin on the spot or not move at all for a good portion of that. Locally you'd have been asked to show controlled movement well before the end of that fight.

Funny after all the solid hits that SS just dies on its own accord Laughing

Nice fight tho, just gotta work on the reliability Smile (as always with a spinner eh haha)

First about my bot...

Knowing the meaning of the led tells the whole story. Before the match started, the led should have been flashing rapidly, it was flashing slowly , indicating that the robot was in config mode.

So the match was fought with throttle locked in at 30% and constantly changing tracking/ heading .

You can see that the led is holding steady in the beginning, inidicating that tracking is ok, then it starts to spin and finally it's totally out of calibration and the bot wiill not move at all.

I nver thought that the driver would play with the sticks and end up putting the bot into config mode....my bad

About the actual match...we didn't do well, and deserved the loss, but some of us have a code of honor. It includes stuff like if yur opponent is up against a wall or stuck, then we go knock him down rather than leave him there just to say that we won.

Also, if we are knocked out, we say so and take the loss, we don't hope that no one notices. It's called good sportsmanship.

some live by this, others need to win at all costs.

We didn't take any video, so what is showing up is from others. Many don't put up video of their losses.

in that this wad their first event and we did zero maintenance tothem, I'm happy with how they held up.

Working on some kits for education

I originally posted in the marketplace, but it is time to move things over here...

I have a couple of bots that will be sold as kits, targeted at schools here in Florida.

There is an effort to revive combat robots by encouraging students to build 3 pounders. I am working on some designs at the moment. One is a steel wedge with optional weapons and the other is a horizontal undercutter.

The undercutter is moving forward pretty quickly. Here is a picture of the V2 solid model. I've made some improvements over v1 (shown in the marketplace post)

have a look

The axle tube snaps into the main body and is clamped. I moved the weapon belt and pulleys into the main body and extended the main body a bit, for better balance and more weight over the wheels. More to come....

That's an interesting design - what are those red wheel guards made of?
