Chemically Enhanced Robotics - NSW

Hi All

I am one of the new builders from the latest NSW event and have started to collect parts and assemble my first robot for the upcomming event in June.
I would love to get some advise on if what i have planned is fisable and on where to get a few parts.

First, what i have

2x 6V 400RPM ebay motors from the guy who sells the 1000RPM beetle motors (+ spares)
Mini Servos (lots)
TReX Jr Motor Control (1)
6 channel hobby king V1 TX and RX set.
0.5mm Al sheet metal
Batteries (Ordered from hobbyking 3 weeks ago)
Wheels (Need advise, turns out office chair wheels arnt particularly easy to work with)

The questions are; Is it possible to make an effective wedge shape flipping robot using the spring assembly in the photo to flip with.
If so how would you recomend compressing and uncompressing the spring?
Where can i source small wheels ~25mm quickly and cheaply?

Regards
Ken

nobody really seems to have a good answer to antweight wheels as yet.
we made ours with some aluminium hubs, that we glued some foam onto that we holesawed out of a kickboard (swimming)

Hugbot V1.0

Todo:
Replace Al base with Carbon Fibre
More Glue, Less Tape
Get bigger wheels, damn motors are too heavily geared
Learn to drill stainless steel (3 holes = 2 dead drill bits)
Shorten wires

Stab Everything!

Rofl! I love it. Laughing Something sharp like that could be concievably nasty to all the exposed wires on other peoples bots... Smile

Update, Hugbot V1.1

Fully functional and good to go.
Weight 147g

As for the other items in the first photo, i have used the electronics but ditched the Al after the photos of the destroyed coke cube on one of these build reports. I value the internals to much to have them spill everywhere with no reason.

Robot Marketplace ~$8.50 US for a set of 2.
http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-MHUB07.html Unfortunately shipping is pretty terrible ~ 50 USD so i bought hubs, wheels and CF for a few bots in one hit.

Ah, so that's proof that robotmarketplace has changed their shipping method to ultraexpensive we-dont-want-international-customers shipping. Crying or Very sad
Another alternative for hubs i've been looking at are the prop adaptors ala http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8895 sadly now out of stock. Smile

ive actually considered prop adapters at mounting a foam wheel on the back end of one of my big brushless motors for friction drive. I tested it and you can get it to hold pretty good on its own with a reasonably high levelof 'clutch grip', but with say spikes (nails) embedded in the hub to lock the wheel it could just work well enough.

Damage Report from 25/6/11

Nothing too major, just seriously slashed up wheels and a slightly grinded coke bottle.
On that note 0.5mm Al and glue are both useless and will never be heard from again.

Hugbot V2 to be invertable with better drive motors.

On that note;
Request 1: could somebody please link me to whatever are the current preference for verticle spinning beetle weapons, as that will be the newest addition to the fleet.
Request 2: Could somebody please link 6V antweight motors as mine where worse than useless.

Regards,
Ken

None are in stock yet on botbitz, the ones glen had were these bad boys: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/6V-1000RPM-Torque-Gear-Box-Motor-New-/220765793100?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3366aaab4c was impressed with em!

Beetle motor often used is the Turnigy 3530, but they may be superceded now... basically want 4mm or so shaft, and 250-350 'hobby watts' as suggested. I have one of these, it's fairly insane...
