Its confirmed the triton chargers will work with the LipoDapters...

Hi Trent!

Yes. Half an hour for lower cell counts, then starts to lose steam but will do up to 10S.

Take care,

I asked sid about keeping the M1 cells balanced.

Yes and no. It looks like these cells keep balanced pretty well (so do LiPos) but it's a good idea to check them occasionally. I've built a 6S pack without balancing taps but will probably put them on my next pack. I prefer the 0.1" connectors. If I can get around to finishing it, the MM7 http://www.slkelectronics.com/MM7/index.htm will keep track of discharge and the CLAMP (don't ask yet) will balance cells during and after charge. The important thing is that things have to get a lot worse with M1 than with LiPo before any damage is done. You will be fine with your charger & LPD+ as long as you don't abuse the cells and occasionally check them with a voltmeter.

HOLD ON A MINUTE! Laughing

I was just having a read back through this A123 thread.....Phil posted this....

Some info posted on the RFL:

3532.6 in reply to 3532.4

The A123 cells require a very different charging voltage from regular LiPoly cells. LiPoly chargers charge at 4.2 V per cell, but the A123 cells require 3.6 V per cell. Connecting a regular LiPoly charger to a pack of A123 cells would destroy the pack from overvoltage. A 7S A123 pack will successfully charge using the settings for a 6S LiPoly pack, however.

CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG

I would like to run 7 Cell A123 packs....I CAN charge this with my Triton set @ 6S LiPoly pack!!!! 25.2VOLTS!!

Would the Lipo charge detection work though? You might find the voltage is OK, but if the charge can't detect the peak charge it will just keep pumping them until they are damaged.

I think Lipo's use a CCCV (Constant Current, then Constant Voltage) charging model.

They charge at a set maximum current until the voltage climbs to a maximum charge voltage, then just hold the voltage there until the current draw at that voltage falls off to near-zero.

If thats the case, and the maximum voltage is correct, then A123's "should" work fine with an existing Lipo charger if the terminal voltage is correct.

Double check it though.. I havent actually tried it.. Wink

Well I picked up the 160x CP2400s from master instruments last week. Haven't had a chance to post since then. I did get a moment to send Neweyns batts which have safely arrived.

Firstly thanks to Brett for taking the time to make the order for us. Much appreciated. Even if I did feel like a nerd when they said Robowars company eh?

Secondly Glen, here's a pic of the collection of batts. Yours is the brick. Now the real question is how much can I ransom your batteries for? Twisted Evil

Seriously, Im off work on Thursday and can drop them off if your home.

Once again kudos to Brett
