So, the background of this post.

Since we redid the arena using full sized 2.4m wooden beams, the old 1.2m long ones have gone unused and are clogging up my workshop while i'm doing a massive cleanout and reorganise. Figuring they'd never be used cause they're all gouged up and shitted (and cost nothing anyway) I've started making a hydroponic growbox that'll be computerised eventually Smile

And no. I am not growing weed in it haha. (no seriously). Try not to laugh at my wood working skills. It was made with an abrasive saw (there was a lot of fire) and a bunch of xu1 drills held together with hose clamps and powered by puffy lipos. Razz

Still needs all the internal framing, lighting gantry + Plywood covers but not bad for an hours work.

Question though. The two pots weigh about 40/50kg each and sit on top of each other on two platforms. They need to sit on sliding platforms to make working on it easier as hefting 50kg worth of weight in and out with no side room will be impossible. No doubt commercial ones of that size and load rating will cost a mint. Cannae afford!

So who has suggestions for an extremely cheap shelf sliding system i can cook up myself? I have tons of 50mm x 3mm thick strip steel that'd id like to use up before it rusts in the open. So using that will be good.

Ideas?

mmmm home projects.....so do you want to slide the whole box containing the pots along a track? Pipe dolly would work for that....though you would have pipes laying across you back yard.

Then if you wanted it to move out by itself you could do what we did for our animation dolly...and have a long threaded 12mm rod running parallel between the pipes that slides the whole thing along as a drill motor turns it.

If I'm totally got the wrong idea of what you want...ignore me he he.

Close! Smile

imagine in the box there's two shelves with one pot on top of the other. i need both of those shelves to slide out of the box itself. Like a dresser drawer on steroids.

Oh ok....you could just do skateboard wheels running along bits of steel (rails) with motorised threaded rod to push em in and out. Though you would still have the rods and rails always poking out.
