Well this is the robot design I was hoping to have done for October 15th event, Unfortunately my health seems to have decided to get in the way, but I thought I would post it up here anyway.

To give an idea of scale, the wheels are 8", body is 6" diameter, weapon is 3" diameter by 6" point to point.

Intention was originally to do this with currie gearboxes, but my order of 6 of them (2 for testing, 2 or 4 for bot) never turned up. So this is a modified version for belt drive. With the belts being covered inside the body. I've done the math on this and it should be doable in the featherweight limit, problem will be the balance when the thing is spinning.

And yes the bumper is designed to be sacrificial, probably 1mm wall ALU tubing.

I'd increase the material thickness on the bumper as 1mm aluminium is sacrificial to beetleweights. Something like some poly ag pipe that is a thick, light plastic would probably be suitable without putting you over the weight.

Looks cool, real shame about the gearboxes, I got mine pretty quick and Aaron's arrived eventually. Confused

Hey Cool Lemming! The other problem with the thin bumper bar is if you ram into the wall/opponent it could pinch against the tyre.

Great to see a hacker space robot design! Hope the health gets better to!

Not really, health issues mean I have no money to build it atm, had nearly $1k medical bills in the last 4 weeks, and worked a whopping 4 days in that time >_<
