Putting a solid shaft in takes almost no time at all, taking weight out to compensate for the heavier drum shaft is the tricky bit, especially as Reboot is getting a set of cp2400’s to replace the old drill packs.
Back to 13.6kg, legal with its heaviest drum and battery pack now with a solid shaft I'm much more confident with. Just needs final assembly and its ready to rumble.

As far as Reboot goes very low maintenance event. We didn’t even change the battery pack having plenty of time to charge. One advantage of staying on the winner’s side.
Only thing we did was swap Benders radio into Reboot and disconnect the flip after some gittering in the Eleanor fight, not sure what was going on so we decided to be cautious.
Main thing to think about is the tendency for Reboot to flip when hitting an immovable object, that’s what bought him undone in the Brisbane Singularity fight and almost ended his run at Sidetracked.
Technically a flip of an invertible bot rates as trivial damage but it looks bad. Reboot actually suffered more damage at the practice day the weekend before when Bane hit him.
The big upgrade for the event was good quality belts, Reboot has lost fights due to snapped or striped drive belts in past events so that was one less thing to be fussing over, probably run higher voltage now if we wonted.
The other change was an experimental aluminium drum axel but didn’t fight anything that would have really stressed the drum, King Cobra was the hardest on the drum. _________________ Satisfaction is proportional to effort and results.

Just wondering, I was having a bit of a sticky beak at it, it runs at 30v right? And I noticed the weapon scooter motor's case has been lathed down! I thought that was somewhat interesting... _________________ ( •_•)
We were struggling to save weight you might have noticed holes in everything so we put the yoke in the lath and cut some material from the area around the brushes, we didn’t wont to reduce the field flux by thinning it down where the magnets work.

I think Reboot has a good balance of speed maneuverability hitting power, defensive moves reliability and with Robs driving it has a good chance against most of the other bots in the comp.
We will build a new one when the time comes, been thinking of different wheels and a chain drive but I don’t think they would work a lot better and they would be heavier.
Hope we can get to the Annihilator this year we will certainly make it a high priority.

Getting closer to a design for a new feather weight drum bot.
Probably going to call it Minimower Mk 2 as it’s a lot more like Minimower than Reboot.
Wide drum and straight wedge.
Lower, tougher, less likely to flip on impact.
Boring boxy shape, cant have everything.

We don’t intend to retire Reboot; hopefully Daniel might take him to Robogames.
As far as a new Reboot we haven’t come up with any worthwhile improvements to justify a rebuild.
If Reboot comes home in a bin bag we will build a new one.
Minimower is currently still active and mixed it with the current bots in the second day rumble.
There is a lot of room for improvement with Minimower but Rob wants to keep the original as is so a new one is the way to go.
Got to remember NSW is hard-core battling, no crowd to please there, think they dropped the style point from there judging to.

Well, Reboot is patched up and running again after the Jolt fight.
Substituted a drum, drum axel and 100watt scooter motor that drives the drum.
Was going to modify him to take a larger diameter drum axel but no time.
Problem is the drum axel bends then the teeth of the drum hit the weapon motor; things go down hill from there. _________________ Satisfaction is proportional to effort and results.

Have dug out Reboot, totally dismantled and partially cut to peaces and a pile of parts accumulated some years ago that were intended for a rebuild/ upgrade.
Thinking passably freshen up the original and try and build a new one at the same time.

Old reboots on the bench receiving upgrades. Gary will build this one first with new ideas as a trial before starting the frame on Reboot II. Few new things are we have a chain to the friction wheel on the drum. The drum axel is a solid high quality piece of aluminium, the legs at the front are a stronger piece of tube. The motors are now 12 volt at 100w instead of 24w 100w scooter motors.

New reboot pile of parts on bench as you can see a couple of weeks ago and reboot II was a pile of parts. Was thinking about using a tube frame like the original but went for a square hollow section. Much easier and by the time the bumper side armor is on the robot looks like the original anyway.
Drum end surfacing drilling holes. This forced us to fix the vice which had been broken by the old owner. Gaining a fair bit of skill on the mill now.

Frame taking shape motors are in. Little more weight to use to mount the motors these days. Thats strong steel, another automotive initiative, part of a tail shaft.

much bigger drum axle, considering we started with towel rail over 10 years ago.
new drive motor mount in tailshaft steel section and new clamps
friction drive need reinvention due to the frame being a bit short. necessity is the father of invention.
needs a bit of armor at the bottom but see what weight is like after wiring

End caps fitted bearings smoothed sides in lathe bored out hole. 6060 t5 aluminium. had the stock for many years with this purpose in mind. bearings are protected by rubber housings. intended for use in large fans.

If you can afford to feed it Argon, with a decent size bottle of argon gas, then you can grab one of the small inverter Arc welders and a scratch-start TIG add on kit for it for under $200
If you want to be able to do Aluminium (which is a lot harder), then the machines start to get expensive. $1k+
