P60 gearmotor pinion strength

I'm deciding which P60 gearboxes to get for a build, and right now I'm leaning towards the 16:1 or 20:1 ratio gearboxes. Ideally, I would use the 20:1 ratio, but I noticed that the first stage of the 20:1 gearbox is a 5:1 reduction and uses a smaller pinion than the 16:1. I remember hearing people complain about the small pinions being a failure point in the banebots gearboxes with 5:1 first stages. Is this still an issue with the P60s? I'm wondering if there is a significant difference in durability between the 16:1s and the 20:1s.

16:1

My team has consistently used 16:1 P60 gearboxes with RS550s in 15lb battlebots and have never had a failure with the gearbox other than combat related shaft bending and also seem to get good speed/pushing power.

The original Banebots gearboxes had brass pinnions and the P60 has a steel one that appears to be hardened. I have used the 16:1 and 26:1 with no issues for several years.
