one question, isnt a hobbyweight meant to be half the weight of a featherweight? like 13.6/2 = 6.8kg?
No, given that we adopted the U.S. Standards, the "hobbyweight" class is 12lb, which is less than half the 30lb featherweight class.. one of the discontinuities in the system.. once you start getting down that light, people start wanting finer and finer graduations, hence the ant, superant, beetle, soz and so on..
personally, once you get any smaller than feathers, I think you're starting to get too close to a radio controlled toy car for my liking. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

played around with a weapon for it today, its going to be a big ass 230mm saw blade essentially dragging on the floor mad dog style.
i tried to drill a hole in the shaft for an m3 bolt to pass through and hold the boss onto the weapon shaft. i spun up a light piece of 1kg steel when it was all done (went up to speed pretty quick on 24v) before the whole thing started to shake and the bolt then snapped after the motor went for a nice roll around the floor (far to misaligned boss, i had to drill it in a real awkward way as i couldnt fit it in the drill press vice properly).
i then redid it with a bigger 5mm solid steel pin and it stopped vibrating and seemed real strong, however when i tried to hammer the pin in the second time, i snapped the shaft right in half! do'eth!!
so i guess ill just need to find either A) a far bigger motor with at least a 10mm thick shaft for the pin to go through, or B) find one of the flat plate motors.
the frame design is coming along nicely, it should be all made of bolted together 3mm steel, and 10mm lexan on the tops and for little structural pieces, looks very artistic i feel, and i should have a cad of it up by sunday time when i get every panel at a rounded off measurement and every angle at either 45 degrees or 90 degrees (you can sometimes forget this in a CAD model).
ermm oh yes. and the 2x SLAs should be for the drive and the 2x drill nicads on the weapon. if weight is a bitch ill just chuck 1kg out of it in the form of one SLA[/quote] _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

well it seems as though kang has ballooned way overweight, to like 15kg, so its a fresh new start me thinks.
heres what i did look like with all the steel and aluminium framing:

http://robowars.org/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=451
its incredibly strong though, even with it just resting there i can jump up and down on it and cant feel any movement, like bending. unfortunately...
way way to heavy, and im not willing to forgo all that armour with plan b and basilisk around. so its some smarter designing in order.
im thinking now about just ditching the whole saw motor and saw thing, and just getting a big hulking piece of steel pipe, hacking it in half and using it as a thwackbot with some of those 200w motors, but ill play around with it some more, soo much spare time
or coneversly ill just use the biggest saw motor i can and make the rest of it tiny _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts
