Sportsman Robots - Barton Robotics - NSW

Blame Angus for being so persuasive or me just not being able to give up building robots lol..
threw together a sportsman robot for the sydney event,
Basic lifter using a custom drill gearbox,
2 12v drill drives
6 cell lipo
due to my cheapness and not having any speed controllers left anymore im just going with servo switching, may be my downfall but meh $20 for the lot over what $65 per speed controller. who needs variable speed control rofl

So yeah cad and then pretty much finished product. having my hands on a laser cutter makes life so much easier Razz

access to all that laser cut goodness certainly speeds things along for you Smile

well i wont try to convince you out of doing servo switching, you probably dont care and i'd rather have that advantage over you in combat, but if you do manage to win or even place then that will be a fairly awesome bragging point Razz

haha have faith in my awesome servo switching Razz
If there was going to be regular events in which i could attend then i would see a reason to invest back into getting more reliable/expensive components but atm this is a once off so keeping it cheap as possible

Back in the day servo switching was often more reliable than an ESC. It wouldn't just sit there and failsafe like most of my robots. Wil make it hard to drive but if it works screw it.

I shall have ESCs on hand if you decide you need that upgrade for the finals.

Fuck that looks awesome, I do hate you a little for being able to make something better than me so very very easily.

well it would seem that 12v kmart drills just dont like being run at almost 200% voltage rating rofl Embarassed whodathunkit xD
Wired it all up and soon as i tried to lifter something the lifter motor burnt out then about a minute later of driving around both drives burnt out haha..
SO on that note, i bought some 18v drills and reduced the battery to 5s rather then 6s.. yes could probably run the 18v on 6s fine but itll be fast enough and dont want to risk burning them out mid event >_>

Also a bigger change, since there is now a rather juicy prize for winning, servo switches are gone. Before i didnt really care, no prize, just for fun, not worth investing in.. but thats a different story Razz

I also noticed in the second that i did try to lift something, my terrible unmeasured front supports were too close to the frame so it would tip when it tried to lift.. few minutes on the laser and new extensions Razz

it literally lifted for like a second and it just tip forward and the motor went up in smoke.. so dont know how well it lifts haha

haha as much as i would be happy to help people out, not the first one to ask Razz i can't be doing too many foreign orders at work so close to each other, the boss only just said yes to allowing me to buy some steel from him and use the laser for all my parts so doubt he would let me do anything again for a few months

Maybe entertain the idea to your boss that there might be some good pocket money from laser cutting services especially if it's not high tolerance cutting requirements and is suitable for testing the laser units Wink

Haha maybe when we start producing lasers but doubt it until then. He specifically doesn't advertise the business so randoms don't come in asking for small jobs lol

And Done. Quality paint job of course >_>

Short Video, would have been longer but was getting given the you must leave the workshop now hints seeing as i had been clocked out like 4 hours to wire the robot xD
I sense a future problem with the lifter gearbox.. i have sheered all the teeth on 1 stage of the gearbox twice now when i accidentally loaded it up so yar will just have to be careful i guess
