Planners - NC

Ok so re-making Plan-G was going to take too long.

So I present NC

presently being stitch welded.

6mm Steel shell (only mild steel)
old school dewalt powered
85C 4500mah nanotech battery
I'm shooting for lots of driveline reliability. So theres some rather nifty mounts russell is making up. To be fair russell has made everything so far of this bot, except the welding lol I've had some health problems that have put me out of commission for a few days which is not awesome this close to the event. But that all seems to be getting better. So I'm off to napean boltmaster for some high tensile doohickies and widgets for the added drive train awesome.

6mm mild steel with expensive guts inside? Brave! Looks neat tho, hopefully the low angles will save you.

Such a jerk lol.

Should be fine, legit cobra was only 3mm mild steel on the wedge and that took on every spinner around heh eh.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right glen?

So Russell got the drives together yesterday

Since I'm after supreme reliability of drive I'm throwing weight at them, the box around the wheels is all 12mm Al. The CNC is paying for it self with this stuff. Its not faster to make stuff with the CNC but everything just fits together once it is made lol.

I was worried about the motors hanging all the way out there taking shock loads so we made up some backing plates for them.

(now this *was* faster to do with CNC, it took about half an hour to go from "we should have that" to "we have that" ;->)

I finished welding up the top of the shell,

I was having contamination issues with some of the welds but I think i have found the cause, picking up filings from grinding with the welding rod and not noticing, urgh. Anyway the top side of the bot is all welded up, now to put the whole bot in the mill and CNC some wheel holes in it lol.

We are going to put the lid on the bottom surface, just some Al plates over port holes into the bot, hopefully everything will fit and be accessible ok lol.
We should probably make a new power switch too.

If this thing works and is fun to drive I'll think about making a bizalloy one ;->

Looking good! The Nats event is shaping up to be another epic spinners VS wedges battle.

Got the speed controls mounted.

Just need to add the foam and they should have some level of shock mounting then.
I'll also look at epoxying down that big inductor.

Not too productive today, but we have the plan now for how to finish it, so should be ready for wiring on monday, lots of little bits of welding, then a super huge weld around the whole lower perimeter ;->

so after burning out another dewalt (albiet during the 7 minute annihilator at vivid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOu2zcvN86c)

I now have 4x 393111-15 motors on their way from the US of A $220 by the time they get here. I'll have a go at re-winding the 393111-01 motors, I think they have a better face plate mounting for the motors to the can. The -15's only attach in 2 places, the 01's go the whole way around.

I'm going to look at remaking it out of bis400 and either pocketing it or getting the front wedge and ground plate made out of hardox (3mm).

@glen how the hell did cobra weigh 12odd kg? with nicads no less.
