Offset public event

I am currently trying to work out a public event schedule/venue/funding for an event ~6months offset from nationals. And I have a few questions.

Would interstaters travel twice a year?

What would people like different from nationals?

Is prize money a draw card?

What weight classes would you like? (I am thinking beetles, sportsman feathers or maybe even something bigger)

What format would you like? (Round robin, tag team, annihilator, etc)

Is there enough interest? We would need 8-12 in every weight class.

Steve

My 2c

Would interstaters travel twice a year?

Unlikely for me, but itd be good to have a choice of events to pick one to travel to. Does it have to be in QLD? I can get to Canberra fairly easily. Nationals in the Capitals?

What would people like different from nationals?

Nothing wrong with that formula really. Moar beetles tho

Is prize money a draw card?

Depends how much and what denominations through various placings

What weight classes would you like? (I am thinking beetles, sportsman feathers or maybe even something bigger)

Feathers, feather sportsmen, beetles, something bigger is interesting and would definitely get me there as a spectator but probly not to compete in that class

What format would you like? (Round robin, tag team, annihilator, etc)

w/e

Is there enough interest? We would need 8-12 in every weight class

Maybe!

I would

What would people like different from nationals?

Maybe less competition oriented and more "whiteboard" or fun fights. I don't mind the regular ol' event though. It's all good!

Is prize money a draw card?

Not anymore personally, spend it on improving the event (arena, equipment etc)

What weight classes would you like? (I am thinking beetles, sportsman feathers or maybe even something bigger)

Sportsman feathers for sure!

What format would you like? (Round robin, tag team, annihilator, etc)

Something different would be fun, but just sportsman would do Smile The old annihilators were great as were the tag team fights. So it could be a laugh with the whacky sportsman robots that aren't too likely to take each other out in 10 seconds like the full blown featherweights will. Throw some hazards in the arena and that could make for a good show.

Is there enough interest? We would need 8-12 in every weight class

Beetles and sportsmans, i'd bring something for. Maybe even two sportsmans cause i like them that much Very Happy Probably best to have either sportsmans or full feathers but not both to keep the numbers up.

I am definitely up for an extra event! If its in Canberra, I can help with set up as I have folks to stay with down there. IMHO, QLD would be better for attracting entrants as fewer people would have to travel.

Like the others said, prize money is better spent on the event but a shiny trophy never goes astray.

I only have featherweights at the moment but am interested in a feather sportsman.

The current event format is fine but more whiteboard matches would be welcome and tag team sportsman matches sound fun

Feb or March are fine

As I seam to drop off the planet on the 'off-season' I missed this initial Post. Maybe more events would stop that.

Would interstaters travel twice a year?
Yes

What would people like different from nationals?
Nationals have been running very smooth of late.

Is prize money a draw card?
Not in the slightest. Would rather see money put into the event or arena.

What weight classes would you like? (I am thinking beetles, sportsman feathers or maybe even something bigger)
Something feather size is always good. Not much for the beetles but if the event was a beetle I will build

What format would you like? (Round robin, tag team, annihilator, etc)
Round robin or something to give people a couple fights.
Traveling interstate for a double elim kinda sucks if you go poor and only get two fights for the event. Something like tag team could spice the event up and help distinguish it from the nationals.

As for the sunshine coast in Feb or March. I would try to make it and currently free most weekends. Never been that far north in QLD. I am easy for locations as long as they connect via some form of train or airport.

As a general FYI, March has the Adelaide Cup public holiday for SA (9 Mar 15). It just so happens to line up with Canberra day in the ACT and Labour day in Vic. Looks like QLD and NSW miss out though.

Stevo, are you thinking of having similar sportsman to the NSW Redern event last year?
