Found this. Wonder how much they paid for this....
I only got to skim it briefly but didnt exactly look like it was a great show. And pretty bloody unsafe. If they flew out of the UK with these bots instead of getting us to do it, for a 20min show each day I think thats pretty damn shit.
Let me know if someone gets a chance to watch it properly.
F*ck that, looks nothing better than India... pneumatics isn't safe enough to run bots with just a 'wire fence'.
The axe - 1000psi...
Kind of glad we weren't a part of it looks NOTHING like that american expo event a few years back with ziggy, sewersnake and others. _________________ ( •_•)

Considering that we just had over 3,000 audience for the weekend, with hours of action in a safe arena, EB was massively ripped off Our audience was much more into it as well - they made lots of noise and wanted autographs. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

I guess they didn't mention that there are already builders in Australia. All the traffic would go to their website.
I found the FRA Event Safety Guide.

Technically they failed the lowest arena/event class.
But we did too . We'd need to add an internal wall and an internal gap of 1.5m. A rough guess would be an extra 28 sheets of polycarb, extra roof trusses, wall frames, the barrier, $15000..........

Whatever they payed, it was a bad deal for the organisers, and Jonno, as he's taking a shitstorm he doesn't deserve.
I want to know what happened as when he flies home it will be me or someone else next time we try to organise an event and they point to this and say you guys are unsafe and we aren't insuring you.
Well that's interesting but doubtful it will see any result. _________________ Steven Martin

Did they ever get back to you? I wonder how many weeks it takes to work out if that was polycarbonate or mesh. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

The internal wall is just the arena edge, ie 4mm steel kick plate. Its not a polycarb cage within another polycarb cage. The Robochallange arena is laid out correctly. Your arena would just need an inner wall about half a meter high to meet the UK rules and a steel floor. But the US don't have an inner wall so there are different views on it.
We have the wall as it means the robot cant reach you if something goes wrong during the arm up process. If something goes wrong during a fight then someone can enter without worrying about a rouge robot... unless its a spinner in which case you just wait until the batteries die.
And yes, the arena that was at that event wasn't even a Class 6 arena. It was shameful.

Meh. Pointless bureaucracy imho. There are more arenas without an inner area than with them and given we are passing 10 years without anyone being maimed they must work alright.
That and it's nice having fights that go longer than 8 seconds without someone being gently toppled over a 3cm high wall. You guys should try it sometime _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

With relatively immune radios, vast majority of people using non home built ESC (done poorly can be a risk) and checks on failsafe means I can not see much of an advantage of an inner wall but it is what the brits like so does not hurt for them to continue.
As has been mentioned, the big risk about entering our arena with an out of controlled robot is a spinner, also a problem for the UK.
One time I did see a spinner fail to stop the weapon quickly we chucked a bot (a steel wedge bot from memory) in the arena to stick the spinner in a corner. _________________ Remember to trust me, I am an Engineer.

Its always a point of contention about how much of an advantage flippers get with an oota. Vertical spinners can also take advantage of it to a degree. I would like to see the two long sides of the arena have their wall hight increased to double what it is atm to reduce easy flips out and give other designs a chance.
I found email chain with EB this morning and basically asked them wtf happened. _________________ Steven Martin
