New builder

Hey guys,

Dylan from the Sunny Coast here and I was wanting to get into bot building. I'm pretty familiar with R/C buggy building but want to move onto something different.

I was planning on building a featherweight and/or an ant-weight bot for the Ipswich event. I was wondering what sort of cost these bots normally run for the initial build and if there are ways to reduce the cost. I'm a uni student so textbooks and whatnot tend to run my wallet a little dry.

I was wanting to build either a vertical spinner (drum bot thing) or a flipper wedge (sorry if this isn't the right lingo). I am quite confident in making a spinning drum but not so confident in pneumatic pistons for flippers and the like. If anyone could direct me to a pneumatic tutorial for bots that'd be great.

Hopefully I get a working bot before October (quite likely XD ) and meet some of you guys at an event or two!

Hi Dylan. Good specific questions there. Here is a handy pneumatics site http://www.teamonslaught.fsnet.co.uk/pneumatics.htm You can price a lot of your parts from http://www.botbitz.com/ We normally get our batteries and radios from http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/index.asp but you may have gear from your RC buggies.

Ants may not be happening at next years Ipswich event.
