Seeing as how we tend to run significantly different parts from the common US stuff, I suggest we start a CAD parts model repository for people to share the parts they have taken the time to draw.. (if they dont mind).

I'm happy to setup a page on the RoboWars Site if people want to send me any models they have.. credits of the creator will be listed on the page.

Any Takers ?

that would be a great idea, seeing as how basically the only common rhino cad models are dewalt drills, victors and battlepacks over there.

ive got a few home drawn models of things like jaycar switches, microswitches, jaycar relays, cybot drives etc etc.

I'm prepared to offer my Rhino renders of:

300psi compressor motor
300psi 4.8:1 reduction.
Threaded rod
Scooter motors
Scooter belts
7amp SLA
4amp SLA
2.3amp SLA
Aussie Colson Wheel
Custom made Battlepacks
Red wheels
B42-500 Magmotor
C40-500 Magmotor
Nick Drill Mounts
Team Vertex Custom Aluminium IBC BOX with 30mm fan..
Lem 130 (little sketchy, but good enough for placement drawings)
RS-550
Winch motor (about to get upgraded)

I also don't mind drawing some "one of" parts for people too. All renders are Rhino 3D Version 2.0

OK, Well If anyone wants to send stuff to me, I'll get working on a CAD Models page.. seeing as how I'm working on some other RoboWars pages at the moment as well..

Anyone sending models, if you can include a cross-platform format like IGES or some other format that other cad programs can open in addition to the native format of whichever cad program you use, that would be helpful. most have a "save as" feature. any suggestion on what the most widely accepted compatible format is ?

And if you have additional data like weight as Jake suggested, include that too..

send them to cad<at>robowars.org

Brett, can I do up a large zip file with all my parts and approx weights and documentary and upload it to my server as I believe I have about 20-30mb of Rhino files, not including whatever I can cross format them with.

just let me know where they are when you have them ready

It's smaller then I thought when compressed. It's only about 4MB worth. I'm going to write up a load of documentation with my parts and about them, so expect them tommorow Razz

What format are Rhino files?
When we send Inventor models to other companies we save them as a STEP file. All decent 3D modelling packages can read these file. Its simalar to the .DXF format for 2D sketches.

The only problem with saving the CAD files as 'igs' or 'step' is that all the material properties will be lost as well as design tables.

The main 3D CAD programs used in Aus are 'SolidWorks', 'Inventor' & 'Rino',
There is also 'CadKey', 'SolidEdge', 'Catia', and some others.

I know that SolidWorks can import 'Inventor' part files as well as some other formats. But I'm am not sure how good the import function is.

but anyway, I have as SolidWorks parts

XU1 motor & gearbox
XU1 output shaft support plate / bush
SLA's multiple in a design table
XU1 motor / gearbox mounts
IBC (In detail. just a couple of bits left to add then will be complete)
Mag motor small and large.
Johnson motors
red wheels
Fallshaw 125mm wheels

I know there are some others but I have to have a look.

I will send them once the file format is sorted out. or I can send them as solidworks part files..

Hi, Maelstrom
Yes we are rare on the form. I have been trying to get some others interested but with no success. (they just talk about it)

If you need some help with inventor, I have some limited knowledge of it. I use to help some engineers with it at my previous job.
(And I do mean limited knowledge.)

Well here is a little CAD drawing I have been working on. It is very close to being completed.

http://robowars.org/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=352

I made one of the wheels transperant so every thing could be seen.
