Very, very fun!

Nothing looks wrong at a first glance, can't see much of the design in the pictures though. Comes with pretty much no filament so make sure you pick that up as well.

Best be queueing up early; they probably only have a few printers per store and they will likely go fast.

It's a wanhao i3 - decent chinese machine but needs lots of TLC to reach its best printing quality. I did a video on it because I was asked if I'd seen it hundreds of times XD Got one on its way.

EDIT - Vidyo https://youtu.be/w_G7hEdORfc

That's a great video, thanks, I'll have to subscribe to your channel.

You mention issues with printing ABS due to the open print bed, but I'm guessing that for robot parts (I'm thinking drill drive mounts mostly, also anweight chassis designs) that the PLA isn't strong enough. With experience using it and/or modifications is it likely to be usable with ABS?

I'll be working tomorrow, the wife has offered to try and pick one up sometime during the day though, so if they sell out I'll be out of luck. It's just a pity that the two closest stores to us haven't opened yet.

Great video, subbed your channel. An Aldi opened up just 700 metres away from me; perhaps I'll queue up tomorrow...

Isn't that the same for most other printers without an enclosure?

You could do some parts but IMO it isn't worth it for ABS. I purely got it as a PLA only printer with a larger build bed than my Mini.

Keep in mind that the Up Mini has an enclosed but not actively heated build chamber and it still struggles with parts bigger than 80-100mm of certain shapes.

You could put a plastic box around it and it will work but I think your going to be fighting it.

HOWEVER for the price its still amazing. I paid $560 for the same printer 12 months ago with a far higher AUD it has now had heaps of mods to make it better. You will get some awesome prints but it isn't worth getting it if you primarily want to do ABS.

If your looking for big ABS just buy the UP Box and save yourself some pain.

Fair enough - I saw some pretty average reviews of the UP Box, considering it's $3,00 price tag. Looking at YouTube reviews of the Wanhao, there seem to be some recent videos with a Ver. 2 printer but they don't mention if there are any differences & improvements to the original version.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, it's put me back to where I was before I saw this deal: I want one, but can't yet justify the price (and don't really have the space) for one with the features I want. It's getting closer though, and I may end up getting one of these if/when they're on sale again, or possibly the Fabrikator Mini.

I'd also rather get more familiar with them and with 3D modelling before I get one, I'll have to trawl through the Maker's Muse videos. I'm particularly interested in some of the less usual filament options (PLA plus wood/bronze, PETG), and would want to get one that will cope with them (or is cheap/modifiable enough that I'd be happy hacking it to do so).

Sold out by 8:31 Shocked ! There was a queue forming by 8 am and Aldi only had around eight printers, so they went fast.

I can't see much progress on the robots happening today...
