Yeah they do. Did a few cad drawings in the past few days and designs with nutstrips instead of aluminum bulkheads definitely need time to get used to.

Update:

Just realized that carrying both a featherweight and a sportsman at the same time from China to Sydney isn't really gonna work. (stupid me) So decided to jump onto the antweight train...

Started with some basic parts: N20 gear motors, 3D printed wheel with O-rings as tires.

Update:

My first ant weight quickly turned into a generic vertical spinner.

Here is where I am right now. N20 geared motors for drive, with a 2S 350mah battery. Weapon will be a 1806 outrunner, still looking for exact dimensions for that thing.

Save some weight and size, drop down to a 180mah Lipol.

I would love to do that, but 5A for 3 minutes gives me around 250mah and that's just the weapon...

Radio related question:

I have a HK T6A Tx with me, and I also have the stock Rx. However the receiver might be a bit too big for an ant, so I would like to search for a smaller receiver. Is there a certain protocol to look for? (Google says DSSS v2, but are DSSS radios ok?)

I ran a 2204 for my 35g disc on 3S in my ant and had no issues lasting 3min matches with 180mah packs. The fights were usually quiet abusive too.

Awesome fights!

Ah I see the difference here: I'm using 2S and you're using 3. A 3S 180mah battery has about the same energy as a 2S 270mah. I guess I will be drawing a bit more current, but at a lower voltage.

EDIT: I would love to use 3S but the cheap ESCs from Taobao prevented me from doing that. I guess I would need a "hotter" motor to achieve the same power at 2S.

Knightrous you were right, the same motor running at 2S will have a lower current than on 3S, and will require less mah over the same amount of time.

Update:

Switched to a 3S180mah system. This time I decided to do something I've never done before: a horizontal spinner! It's called Claymore.

EDIT: Parts in this version:
N20 30:1 geared motors
Botbitz 10A ESCs
3S 180mah Battery
ZTW 18A ESC
Orange RX R410X Receiver (Switching to ORX stuff cuz HK receivers are just way to big for a 150g)
DYS 1806 2300 kv motor

A few questions:

What settings do you guys usually use for 3D printing the chassis and what density would the final chassis have?

I don't really have the weight for threaded inserts, so what diameter should I let the screw holes (M2) be in the print?

Looks like I forgot about the fact that Chinese machine shops all close during the spring festival... I wonder if there are any machine shops in Australia that can cut some 2mm Hardox? (preferably at a low price)

I always use 100% infill for ant parts - not that they have had any matches yet. I print small holes around .2mm oversize and on my printer that is a tight fit on the screws, sometimes the holes need drilling out but your printer could be quite different; run a test.

Update:

So the machine shop I found on Taobao just told me that they could make my weapon bars in time... I guess I will have to get those made in Australia...

So this is what the blade looks like...

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I feel like most of this can be laser cut from 2mm Hardox. However, the countersinks are a problem. Any ideas on how I can get this made?

Thinnest hardox is 3mm (3.3mm actual). Is this for an antweight? It's probably easier to get it made from titanium Smile Can have it CNC'd easily then.

sounds like a cheap drill press would solve a lot of these hole related problems you are having Wink
