Hare & Forbes annual sale
Hi all,
The Hare & Forbes sale is on from 11th to 14 of November. Virtually everything is at least 10% off, some much more. Mills starting from $750, Lathes from $950, many smaller tools from just a few dollars. one stand-out is a air blow gun kit with a valve like El Bravo uses for $7.50. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

Good news, There is a BS-4A metal cutting bandsaw with 3 speeds for $259 and a BP-250 Wood bandsaw (still OK for aluminium) for $249. There ia a handy looking multipurpose swivel vise for $99. Their other vises would start from around $50 and on the sale days they are open "all" day _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

They sent me a brochure 'cause I'm their best customer Their web site is hopeless but if you see anything you want, take at least 10% off the web site price:

1/2 Windsor Rd, Northmead. If you can't find something there, it's next door to Dick Smiths and across the road from Bunnings _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

yeah. i used to notice that place everytime i went to bunnings but never realised how good they are.
I noticed some of the cheaper smaller metalworking bandsaws for bout 300-350. WHat are people thoughts. Cabn cut out most things and most sizes or cheap and nasty. _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

It depends what you want to cut. There are 2 sorts of metalworking bandsaws. The horizontal ones are always used as cut-off saws to chop long stock down to length before milling or lathe work. The stock has to be held in a vise and on most models, you only get a 90 degree cut. Horizontal bandsaws are not much good for sheet metal.
Vertical metalworking bandsaws look like wodworking ones but run much slower. They are used for cutting sheet and bar stock for custom work and would be ideal for robot builders. Unfortunately they are always pricey, I haven't seen a new one for under $2K
The good news is that the three cheap Hafco models say "Includes vertical cutting table". This sounds like the horizontal saw sits up and an accessory table bolts on, giving you the best of both worlds. There is no photo in the catalog so I can't be sure. If you go to H&F, make sure they demo the vertical bit and that the table is reasonably strong and rigid. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

thats what we have
we use it in vertical mode quite a bit
only problem is you can run into problems trying to cut large things in drop down mode. or to make long cuts in wide things vartically.
you cant fit anything longer than about 150mm between the blade and the metal part of the saw so it isnt too much chop for cutting big peices out of sheet. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets
