powerpole connectors

well rather clamps while browsing through robotcombat.com i came accross the powerpoles. and while i went and had a look further down it has listed powerpole clamps any thoughts on weither it will actually be worth using them over tape cause the tape heats up and the glue re-activates and lets the poles slide out here is a link

How much were you pulling through those powerpoles to make the tape melt ? I would have though that the batteries would have fried long before there would be sufficent heat there to do that. Sounds like those powerpoles have a pretty high internal resistance. Try some deans plugs, they seem to work pretty well on Singularity, the CP3600 packs are darn hot while the plugs are still pretty cool.

They hold together pretty well too, and take a bit to come apart (I still tape them as a precaution).

BTW, a roll of tape is a fair bit cheaper than a few of those things + freight . . . . .

They were 45A powerpoles and 12G Jaycar wire. The batterys were GP3300 NiMh cells that (in theory are good for about 45A continuous. I crimped AND soldered them, but it could be that some solder flowed down the connector and caused a high resistance connection. I use the same connectors to my mag motor and it pulls 90A without getting it's wiring more than comfortably warm.

A good quality cable tie works wonders. By good quality I mean something that DOESN't come from Dick Smith Wink The powerpole roll pin is also highly recommended asa way to keep the connectors together

well i used a t connector sorta thing from them. cost around 3 bucks each and used it to connect power and stuff to everything as i was garanteed not to accidentally do it abckwards and blow stuff up if it can only go in one way.

WIll use 3 or 4 in rebuild so when charging its basically unclip 2 or 3 plugs, clip one for series connector bypassing switch ad electronics and the other for straight charge at 24 volts so i shuoldnt even have to remeove the batts and that charging takes all of 30 seconds to set up, then walk away
