ROBOlympics 2005 registration is open

Have fun at ROBOlympics 2004 - or did you miss it? Well 2005 is going to be much bigger and much better! We want more Aussies and Kiwis, so don't miss the big show! Nick - will you guys be coming?

[prepared text below...]

Hosted at San Francisco State University, this years event is now four days long and each event will have it's own building! That's right - robot combat it it's own building - but soccer in another, Robo-One in another building, and so on!

Don't miss this years event! Last year we were covered by everyone from CNN and Wired to Radio Toyota and USA Today.

This is the only competition in the world where all major events come together. And this year we've added more! Build a Tetsujin Iron-Man or play Aibo Soccer - there's now 56 events in all!

If you never comepted before, join BuildersDataBase and sign up for the show - it's a pretty quick process (y'all should use it down under for your tournies...)

I'd realy like to see more Super Heavy's - $3400 is a lot of dough! All cash prizes will be paid on site!

Feel free to email me with questions, and I look forward to seeing you at the big event!

lol, if you could advance us the $3400 USD before we win the competition so we can complete our heavyweight, add 50kg of Hardox armour and come over to battle, that would be great Wink

I might seriously think about competing in the 30lb division if I'm not working at the time of the event.

I have the air fare covered but the actual bot we want to take has not materialised yet. I'm a bit worried about taking an untested bot to any event, let alone an international one.

I will discuss it off-line with the rest of the team...

well heres the winners from what i know:

antweights - peepants
12lbers - Ntertainment
30lbers - killabyte
heavyweights - TYPHOON (what the f*ck lol)
super heavyweights - Super megabyte (completely owned from what i heard)

some tid bits ive heard -

slam job flipped typhoon over and knocked it out of that match, BUT typhoon beat megabyte, i have no idea how..

super megabyte was supposed to be on form in a big way and ripped off tombstones wheel, and won that. also hacked the judge to death and the heavyweight megabyte finished the judge off.

super mega also destroyed alcoholic stepfather and caused it to set itself on fire lol

buster got retired by tombstone too.

After reading the coments the Americans were saying about Typhoon I was really wishing this would happen. Maybe now I can find a video of Typhoon in action.

Who won the light and middle weights? Or maybe I should go read the RFL forum (and the FRA forum, love to see what the poms are saying. Very Happy ).

err my mistake, Sewer snake won the heavyweights, but typhoon came 2nd.

smashbox aka wedge of doom won the lightweights, and the rest of the results are on the RFL forum.

ROBOlympics 2006

Start saving your pennies:

Event will be back at Ft. Mason. TENTATIVE dates are 3/24/2006 through 3/26/2006, but don't book your flights until I confirm the venue.

Hey, I might even have a competitive bot next year!

Looking at the featherweight winners list, I have a game plan for Kilabyte, but I have never seen a video of VD3 being beaten except by arena hazards - has anyone got a link to a video or a site for a bot that's beaten VD3?

I figure that a pure wedge bot (like my new one, Subliminal) would survive but lose on points unless VD3 was tipped and didn't self-right. Any ideas?

ive seen many vids, its main weakness is the wheels getting torn up or knocked off.

Also Killabyte taking a heap of damage to its shell but getting some massive hits in.

Yeah, those wheels are just asking to be attacked from the side! My plan for killabyte would involve very wide wedges (what Subliminal has) or a keep away device. I don't recall Kilabyte having any blades except at the top & bottom of the shell.
