Now that is a good strategy Idea Build scissors, get rid of the rocks and then feast on paper Cool

Personally I like the balance that the SCDA rules produce but I am happy to be a roman candle when in Rome. It seems to me that going for a knock out design and avoiding judge’s decisions is the safest plan. I wonder if Brett wonts to give Rotor Blade a higher priority, its s semi mobile arena hazard style bot with most of its weight points in a nasty hi KE spinning weapon. Problem is I might get drawn against it. Confused

SORRY had a weapon all season but im sure it only won about 2 or 3 battles due to it .so why did it win most of battles it competed in ...........that id like to know??? certainly not due to its destructive nature.so why ??
.im just curious about the catalyst of the sudden change of opinion and the big swing towards the damage metre rather than the others ......????

its not a big swing
it has always been there
but now there are some robots capible of doing it.

i think sorry won because it was rather reliable and in the most rounds.
which is fine
but dosent make for a paticurlarly exciting set of credentials.
(given the choice does one buy the reliable haundi excell or the 1967 Corvette? (as your "weekend" car))

i want to see excitement, stuff going flying. things getting bent.
demolition derby, not dodgem cars.

Jake is right; as a group we are becoming more capable and bots are evolving into stronger designs, both for attack and defence. Reliability is still a big factor and Sorry could be taking the trophy home at the end of the year.

The judging criteria never did really change. This discussion was mainly meant to unify everyone into being able to see all aspects of judging and satisfy the destructive bot builders as to why they lost to agression and control.

I`m pretty happy that we are about as close to agreement as we will ever get and without using score cards to calculate every match (boring and painfull in my opinion) we will have as many judges as we can; 5-7-9 . This way the probability is that the correct winner will be chosen.

The Annihilator, with three fixed judges is a different mater completely! Laughing

this rule is perfect and something will need to adhered to during judging
Very Happy

quote:
Awarding Aggression Points
o A Combatant who attacks a full-body spinner (e.g. intentionally drives
within the perimeter of the spinning weapon) is automatically considered
the aggressor and awarded a 3-2 score in the case where both robots
consistently attack, or both robots consistently avoid each other.
Note: a Combatant is considered a "full body spinner" if the robot cannot be attacked
without moving within the perimeter of the spinning weapon.

so i raise this question .....how is it possible to attack a full body spinner or full bar spinning robot without inflicting purposful damage on yourself .......ahh i have an idea Wink restrict a spinning weapon to a max of 2/3 the robots total body area ,allowing an opponent at least somewhere to attack without commiting suicide Very Happy or then again build steel bricks Wink

what about just making the silly blighters tip onto their weopons and watch them bouce around of course there is a defree of risk to this because in order to do that the other bot must be at a sufficant speed (weopon wise) to do this

Don`t like it, that would restrict design and making Full Body spinners illegal!

The response would be, attach a low, pushing spike to force the spinner into the wall, hurting itself!
