CATACLYSM!!! Team dyrodium NSW

Well... At least the name's australian! Laughing
(may be renamed hedgehog, which sounds better, or mabey spikything, but thats a website name ).

Australia's first echidna-bot!

Specs (design on paper, so they may change)

Base: 50cm X 40cm X 1cm Mild Steel or aluminium.

Drive: 2 XU1 Bunnings drills + caster for front support (wheels will be near the back of the bot.

Batts: For the moment, the batts from the drills (mabey 4 in parallel if I can get hold of more. But 2 will be fine for now...

Amour: AMOUR! This is where my innovation and flair comes in! I will have
steel walls and roof, which will be bolted together. The sides and roof will all have multiple holes drilled in them (with exeption to the front panel). In these holes will be large bolts, and attached to these bolts will be 30-50 bits of THICK WIRE! This wire (40-60cm long) will be sticking at near right angles to the bot, forming a protective barrier. So if a spinner attacks, it will be blocked by the mass of flexing, springy wires, probably only ripping a few off (which will be easily repairable). Unique or what?! Also, because they will be attached with bolts, I would be able to take them off when transporting the bot. And also make spares for quick weight change, repair or to suit the next fight.

Weapon(s): Well this bot is mainly defensive, so there is not enought room for an active weapon, BUT... At the front will be a 2cm thick Steel bar, which would probably cause self-destruction of most aussie feather-spinners. (that's of coarse if basilisk doesn't rip it right off Very Happy )
Misc: I am using servo-switching to control the bot with a 4channel futuba radio (skysport).

NOTE!
I will not start building this bot for a while due to lack of time and equipment. Also, I am building a wood prototype this weekend for testing all the electronics, then, when I am happy with the result, I am going to start on the real deal. Very Happy

sounds great,

so are you having wires suspended between bolts that stick out the sides? interesting concept.

oh yeah, that steel youve got planned sounds a bit ambitious lol, if you come to the next building day i can bring you some steel that you can try out for size,

Yep.

I will probably end up using aluminium then, but I need a metal that can support all those wires. Also, is a next build day organized?

Oh, and heres a little pic of the design.

The grey dots are spike-bolts, and the black dots on the side are foward-facing spikes (sorry for my lack of 3D Design knowledge). Very Happy

Hmmm. I can possibly come. I will be getting the cordless drills and wheels etc on sat, so if I brought that stuff with me, you guys could show me how to make drill drive's. ( all on a prototype board of coarse). Then when I get the principals right, I can begin on the metal, spikier version. Very Happy What do you think glen? But I would have to catch the train.

See "im back (with problems)", so we can talk on this matter more.

if you can get to blacktown station we can take you the rest of the way.

for sure i can mod the drills for you, it should take 20 minutes to tear the drills and batteries apart and have them ready for robot use Very Happy

ok well angus i would in all my honest oppinion witht that sort of design push the drive wheels to the middle because ... oh wait there isnt a clasical wedge is there damn ok well here is the general specs for wheel locations i have found for wedges haveing the wheels up the front will make it easyer to wedge the enemy robot but makes it hard to steer haveing them up the back is the reverse and the midle is basically mid ground but what you might look into is changeing the design a tiny bit and waking 4 drives in it for the sacrifice of that steal bar thingy and instead add a wedge to the front because glens bot cobra has tried a similer thing but hasnt been very successfull however lifter wedge bots have had a much higher success rate against spinners Very Happy

just my words of wisdom lol which aint much

lol put the scoop falling off down to a stupid idea on my behalf..

before the event i tried to make it look better by putting these big sticking out bolts on the front of the scoop and basilisk snapped them both right off...

but wedges are good
