OH i remember that piece! Shocked
Yeah damn staight! I did some tests with it today, definatly a thermoplastic as u could run a drill bit in reverse and get meltage, and it has awsome shock absorbing capabilities, but can be cut pretty easy, thats why if im versing a saw bot i'll put on some 2mm stainless over it. Smile

Your not kidding about the shock absorbtion, it outperformed a piece of UHMWPE in my beat the hell out of it with several different types of hammers test Smile

sounds good Laughing
scabbing is the best way to go! you find cool stuff and build a robot around it!

Thinking about the plastic, apart from jeff's big bit are there any other bits over 15cm wide? cos thats how long speedbump is so for a new baseplate I need something at least that wide.

Might have to try and get out there during the week, I need a new baseplate and free and plastic is my favourite option!

The design is coming along nicely
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v424/dyrodium/PC210468.jpg
And a pic sans Ti to show supporting triangles.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v424/dyrodium/PC210469.jpg

Now there's the decision of how to bolt it all together... Screw to plastic or bolts to L angle...?

id use massive corner blocks if you could find something good enough for the job, L bracket likes to go all bendy like (if i ever showed you that aluminium frame on cobra youd get the message, you can twist it up with your hands).

i would never screw plastic together for the main frame, thats just asking for serious destruction lol

lookin nice

speedbumps main frame was plastic screwed together Razz

it had a whole 16 screws all up holding the shell on via the motor mounts!
then Jolt ripped the armour half off

So i added more screws along the edges and it was super strong.

I say screw to the plastic but the more screws the better.
Or bolt through the plastic with big washers on each side

lol thread hijack majorly here..

if you get that new base lindsay you should just get some big ass 8mm bolts and bolt them to the base, then have holes in the lid that slide over them and put wing nuts down over the top. would be stronger and no doubt tons easier to undo and do up after and before the match.
