I really like your idea angus, but I personally think something a little stronger will be needed for your steering setup than how Jeff does it!

It works for the flipper and the axe bot, but if you are talking using it to ram other robots, and wedge them, so their weight is on your servo steered wheels and your slamming them around, snappy mc servo

though in theory you could have a setup where the steered wheels are spring loaded to the servo, so the servo is protected from shock. Still, I would look at an stronger setup for a powerful rambot!

Well, the more complex idea is to use the power servo kit from oately, and make some kind of car steering thing with a better motor, but that's a pretty complex idea... I'll try servos first, then see how it works out. However, andre the rockit snail was using them i believe... Confused

andre wasnt exactly a huge rambot either,

the way lindsay did it in space ship 1 is probably the way you want to go with the wheel being pushed and pulled by tie-wire.

but you could use the servo kit and a windscreen wiper motor i guess. i would think it would be hard to steer while pushing someone[/quote]

Set a date for a build day, I was thinking the same thing! Very Happy

Happy to help with servo steering and drill triggers. They are a cheep and highly efective drive system but do take a while to knock up. The steering now I make modular as it was built in to El b`s base and vulnerable; especially to nasty undercutters! I.G! but now I can just pull them out and whack them into the next bot. They are much stronger than you might imagine; the servo is in line above the wheel to maximise torque but takes no weight as the wheel bracket has the thrust bearing from the left over drill chuck parts. The connection between the servo and the wheel is designed to snap off before the servo breaks but I can`t swear by that yet.

Most of my designs now have the steering at the back, so it could work for a ram bot. Axecutioner had the steering at the front? the axe end, so the drive wheels were under the wedge so the more you wedge, the more traction you get. But, the whole thing was grossly under volted to try and stay in the weight limit. An interesting experiment anyway. Very Happy

Weekend after next? I can make it after lunch and some driving / testing time would be a big help.
