Bender is getting a drive upgrade after having problems last weekend.

We are going for the GMC right angle drills as there is a little weight to play with after the recent M1 upgrade.

Please post pictures of the brackets that you use to mount the GMCs. I still haven't been able to find any.

No problem.

It will probably be sometime next weekend before the new MiniMower or Bender drives are far enough together to be bothered photographing.

One thing that might be relevant to your plans; the GMC’s are 1/2inch UNF on the output shaft as in where the chuck screws on, the left hand threaded screw is also larger than the common drill type.

To me that’s an advantage but if you already have wheel adapters made up its another complication.

Looking forward to Bender having a good turn of speed, the GMC’s are 800 RPM at stock 14.4 volts and he has big wheels. Very Happy

Another thing that might be relevant to you is Benders new XXL Scorpion arrived yesterday.

Thanks. It will be interesting to hear of your experiences with them.

I might have to look at making some adaptors for a half inch thread, but I agree with you that the extra size should be a bonus.

Mate, you got a great bargain finding those drills at $50. Bunnings just got back to me with a price, $170 each.

I guess you need to be in the right place at the right time and have the awareness to recognise a deal and grab it.

Part of the fun for me is finding stuff to build bots out of.

No catalog bots for me. Smile

Some of the NSW mob were horrified to see I had given in and used a Colson wheel.

First test drive of Bender with the GMC drives yesterday, what with the cable out and the power going off I couldn’t post at the time but so far very pleased with the speed. Very Happy

Just up to Matt now as far as if he can control him.

No more semi mobile arena hazard that’s for sure.

Just got to strip him down and weld him together he is just tacked at the moment and to a bit of serious testing.

Upgraded bender, matts tested it and finds its a lot faster, running a scorpion and team delta switch, regulator and receiver battery although we'll probably put a 5volt regulator to replace the rx battery if we get time, as is we put a 12 volt regulator just to run the leds and give provision to have a fan on the scorp if necessary.

Nice, that new motor you have on there I had ages ago running a direct drive blade on roadkill, never really saw too much competition but was a very solid motor.
Just a question, how many A123 cells does bender run? 8? Smile

We use to have 7 in the origional version, this one is runing happily on 6. Dont think we need to push it any harder than that.

Ah fair enough, that motor really did scream, suspected a higher voltage but obviously not! Very Happy Good luck with it.

Hopefully Bender is good to go.

Matt took him to work today for paint touch ups and driving practice.

The free running ball bearings on his weapon probably help or account for the speed of the disc.
The old weapon motor was a reasonably large fan motor but not very well made, the new German made bosch one is nicer but down on power but the new wheels are slightly smaller so to be invertible we had to go for a smaller weapon motor.

We have a configuration in mind for a new Bender but testing the GMC’s is top priority.

No point going to even more trouble building a bot around them if they have too many problems but I love the way they allow different designs.

Well we only tested him in the house last night and we ended up limiting the drives to 80% on the radio and putting in a lot of exponential.

Guess I will find out tomorrow about the same time you do, He did seem awfully fast in a spin. Very Happy
