no to the drill idea, its a lil lame.
Get some sort of fan motor maybe with either a friction drive setup or some sort of belt drive (ala plan b), that would provide a nasty as hell weopon if spun upto a good 3000 ish rpm. _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics
The drill motor idea is because of size/space and weight.
The RC plane starter motor I've got is 300grams heavier than a drill motor/gearbox combo, it's really torquey but has no gearbox.
I've always intended to use v-belt/pulley style gearing on the weapon, maybe even a 2-stage system...
...still figuring it out... _________________ There is no such thing as excessive carnage.

What speed are you looking at spinning that disc at? 2000+? Gearing, bah, who needs it _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

theres no need to a 2 stage setup. just a simple say maybe 1:1 or 2:1 reduction from motor straight to pulley attached to spinning mass.
Thats how all bots use it prety much, motor drives pulley which drives other pulley attached to weopon via belt.
Also could we have some pics if possible. this thing is sounding very interesting. _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

Any progress? _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems
The wheel is being pressed over two bearings tomorrow, with the pulley pressed onto one side.
The frame is primarily 220mm box aluminium. Some bracing is 110mm alum.
I've got some spare 4mm carbon fibre sheet lying around, which will be put to use as additional bracing.
The entire frame is bolted together (with zinc bolts - for weight) to be interchangeable in the event of damage.
The armour is aluminium step-plate/polycarb combination.
There is a clear polycarb piece high on the bot. This is for a LED display area (such as failsafes, power, radio signal, and individual drive & weapon 'arm' lights)
Plastic wheels are the current choice (but not really satisfied with them)
I'm using some wheel hubs made by Marto... I do like these though...
The current design is invertable
I'm still kicking around some ideas about the electics....
Testing will show whether I need to bother with gearing the weapon.
Radio is 3 channel hitech lynx , upgraded to spread spektrum.
Batteries will be those tiny SLA's and Li-Polys _________________ There is no such thing as excessive carnage.

Will you be running in time for thr Feb meet? _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems
Andrew has very kindly agreed to weld Malice's frame together for me... and generally have a build day at his place.
I've got my Team Vertex gear box mods and fibreglass motor mounts ready to go.... _________________ There is no such thing as excessive carnage.

You already have all of the parts you require, don't you? It should come together quickly with Andrew's help. Aaron might be able to video any tests. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

You should throw together the parts you have now for MoFo. You know that you can get the same result at 13.6 kg by using more expensive technology. You can test your design even though it is over weight. I don.t think that anyone would nock you back for a fight if it was 15 kg or so. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems
