Nic has drills for drive, a plane starter motor to spin the weapon. He has two SLAs to power it up. Nic was saying he could go with a huge brushless motor to spin the rotor and an enormous Lipol to power it. I think he might also be thinking of brushless for drives but I am not sure.
Nic has a great advantage over most of us. He works in the industry and sees all of the good gear and knows how it handles abuse. It just costs a crapload of money to buy. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems
.... even with a huge staff discount - it still costs a crap-load to buy...
...Andrew (Team Vertex) did some tests on a rc plane starter motor - turns out they are not too unlike a windscreen wiper motor - oh well, it seemed like a good idea.
...still thinking of a GEARED rc plane starter motor - will suss it out more.
....motion will be handled by drill motors
...weapon will be spun-up by eithor a geared starter motor - or a massive torque brushless motor.
....I am back to thinking of using a Li-poly to power the entire bot (considering a 18.8V, 8000mAh pack - but would have to get at least 2 packs to be able to have the turn around time between matches.
The other reason for lack of progress to Malice of Forethought is.... after the build day up at the Team Vertex workshop back in January, I discovered I had only 600g for armour if I used the SLA's, starter motor and 3mm ali step plate I'd intended to use.
That and kicking off a business has temporarily put a stop to hobby spending.
....very much thinking of going back to an origional idea of a 4 sided pyramid (with big vertical spinner) .. similar to Marauder.. _________________ There is no such thing as excessive carnage.
