Thought it was time to start a thread for my little tracked friend.
Firstly a bit of history.
Started this a few years ago? and still havent finished but mainly because in the process of shopping at RCM saw the IBC, met Brett and started building Pinscher and stuff and let this sit around unfinished.
Being a poster bot now thought I should try to finish it.
Being so dam small means you think a lot before you do anything.
The main reason I havent done anything in about a year has been because trying to work out how to use a small chain to turn the turret. Almost got it finished using timeing belts but wasnt happy so stopped working on it.
IN the last few days have started thinking of a friction drive system so just as well I had left it.
Most parts are pretty much done.
Heres a pic of the gears that where stripped from a vcr and made into the turret drive and lift mechanisms.
THe turret will rotate on a large bearing system with a hole left for wires and a tube for propelling liquids. Turret will eventually turn at least 2 or 3 revolutions before wires get strained.
Speed control is with traxxas. 8.4 volts but can handle up to 100 amps. Cool thing about these escs is that the blue anodised heat sinks actually turn purple when hot so great indicator if one side is suffering friction losses.
Motors are mabuchi 550s from a 7.2 volt drill. Originally had the jaycar 12 volts but wanted more power so put those weak motors in PInschers jaws (still there) and went for a thicker wired motor.
Unfortunately this also meant that the extra current was dropping the voltage down and setting off the failsafe so disconected the BEC and use a sep battery for reciever. Batterys are NimH 4/5 A and can supply 40 amps with a capacity of 1950Mah. Battery sits under the motors and speed controllers like a glove.
Heres a pic of the transmission system which shows the early uni joint system. Also u can see a couple of the 10 suspension springs as well as the rear dampening springs.
The big Allen bolt clamping down the gear boxs is the only thing holding the motors in place. Loosening this bolt allows you to adjust the angle of each side or remove one side completey.
One day will change the ESCs to run on at least 12 volts as tests using the IBC are freaking awesome.
Drifting with a tracked vehicle is a lot of fun on a tiled floor and driving it over long grass is cool as it leaves a wake behind it. _________________ Bots that do not destroy you, only make you stronger.

ill give you $1000 for that part of your brain that lets you create such crazy stuff
the modelling detail on that thing is unbelievable, i remember hearing it was folded up out of 2mm aluminium or something.. i thought it was a pre made moulded plastic deal such is the realism
and btw do you really plan on using all 3 of those motors in the turret?

(oh yeah and when do the king tiger, churchil and sherman tanks come out ) [/quote]
Actually only has 2 motors in the turret. What looks like a motor is just half a motor case that I used for the barrel mantel. Just used a dremel and a file and it work great.
Yeah I kinda do have another one in me, about twice the size but dont know if it would be a replica. Have this thng for Sir Killalot but doesnt make a lot of sence to put it up against spinners so thinking of another purpose.
Oddly enough even Sir Killalots drive system is based on the T34.
Actually found an Interstate tank builder that was posting on the US tank fighting forums that made a clever paint ball mech out of a 24 volt sprinkler valve, compressor motor and a tube for about $40 so yeah maybe something that can fire would be cool. _________________ Bots that do not destroy you, only make you stronger.
the reason I'll probably make the WW1 German "Memphisto" is that it's really just a big box - because I haven't currently got the patience to do that kind of detail...

I'll raise it to $1500 _________________ David C.

Sounds really tempting guys. Can get those 885s and a pcm radio but if I sold that part of my brain I would only be able to build wedges and spinners and there seems to be enough builders with a labotamy out there already
So guess I will have to decline yout generous offer _________________ Bots that do not destroy you, only make you stronger.
