i seem to remember raising the same issue, ive seen a a lump of metal go straight thought 15 mm perspecs acrross a workshop,thing to note is the object that shatted was about 7 meters away from it easy.
gotta love an angle grinder.

im not surprised perspex sucks and will crack purely from drilling it, polycarb however in 3mm form has stood up for ages on our arena with jolt hurling stuff into it et al with orbit and robowars arena has been going strong with their 6mm

If you robots weapon are not allowed to penatrate the 10mm polycarb screens then you should build a robot out of 10mm polycarb. It would technically be against the rules for another robot to be able to penatrate your armor.

Of corse I havn't been paying attention to this thread at all so I could be wrong.

Just wondering what the procedure will be regarding tap outs?
Is it possible for an individual unit to tap out without the whole team surrendering?
It’s just that after watching Sprong burning it would be potentially very expensive to let a bot burn once its disabled.

Maybe some sort of time out or a house bot equipped with a large co2 extinguisher to put the fire out in a bot or stationary defence once its operator has decided to throw in the towel.

There is no "tap out" for individual robots under the current rules. There probably should be. Feel free to suggest how we should word this. A housebot with an extinguisher is a great idea!

Thinking about it just using ordinary liquid H2O might be the cheapest and easiest.
After all an UltiBot’s needs to be able to work in mud and rain and cope with being sprayed with coke by its opponents.
Just getting sprayed with water shouldn’t worry them; what’s a little rust compared to having all your tyres burnt off.

Having house bots to put out the odd grass fire or burning bot seems to be a good way of doing it and it makes for entertaining TV.
The extinguisher bots could mount cameras or vice a versa.
A time out and ordinary water backpack if the extinguisher bot cant cope for some reason would probably be a good idea. The rules already allow for time outs for various reasons.

water may not be that good at putting out liquid hydrocarbon type fires though. (IE fuel spill etc) you really need something sticky, perhaps a DIY dry extinguisher loaded with sand?

We actually made a bit of progress on one of our Ultibots today.

The frame of our hunter killer drum bots is tacked together.
Bulldoze is coming along nicely, just have to weigh him carefully before finishing him off. Pyrobot is still a POP but welding will start soon I hope.

Just one question, to help with checking radio range, I cant remember the maximum distance we will need to control the bots?

We are starting off carefully - 150 meters absolute max (assuming you are in one corner and your robot is at the diametrically opposite corner). Maybe later we can get adventurous and try for longer ranges.

A tennis ball sounds fine to me. I bit easier to move around and a lot easier to see at a distance of up to 150M.

I was a little concerned with seeing a golf ball at long range, especially after it’s been run over and squashed into the mud or pushed behind something. I sort of figured it was a way of evening things up with the autonomous bots.

Some sort of get together before the event would be a good idea, hopefully we should have something running by then.

We even have a new radio on order so we might have some success at controlling a bot at long range soon.
