Sorry for the triple posts... Embarassed
I've finaly had time to sit down and read through the rules properly... and i'm really interested now Very Happy
So as far as I understand, you're taking away weight "advantages" by having the whole points divided by total KG thing, which is a pretty cool idea, makes my life easier (smaller bots).
But what i'd like to know:

With the defences around the base in a 2m radius, is there any limits on them, do they count towards that total KG point reduction? Because if it is, it's good, but if not what's stopping people using massive steel bars and such...

How "autonomous" would a base drone be, that slowly pans and when its sensors detect an opposing robot it fires its flame/water cannon? It would also be under rc to override the firing and to failsafe it (so as to not attack it's own team). Would that be allowed?

And also... can robots be designed specificaly for *altering* the terrain? Methinks I could work on a robot that works a flat path out for its team mates to run through fast and steal them artifacts Twisted Evil

EDIT/ all Qs complete. Smile

1. Defences around the base count towards your total kg.

2. It sounds like that would be an autonomous robot to me, but as always - you can put your case for exemptions if it is autonomous but safe to humans.

Yup terrain alterations are legal. In fact they might be the only way of dealing with a passive defence network.

Yes. developing a "recharger bot" that recharges your other bots and then simply running your opposition around until their batteries fail is one possible winning strategy that we looked at. Of course if your opponent figures out what you are doing and targets your recharger, then your strategy dies with the recharger bot.

We want to ensure that there are lots of ways to possibly win - but no way to certainly win.

That idea sounds good. Would you consider a refueling area for ICE powered robots? That might bring a whole new level to the competition. I was thinking of having a petrol weapon, but an efficient electric drive, that way having a powerfull weapon, whilst still being able to drive without some massive current draining motor. Although it's admitted a store of petrol could be seriously dangerous... Confused

Refueling for ice is legal - as long as you do not exceed the limitations on the tank size.

The rules essentially boil down to this:
1. If the event is time limited then total tank volume on any robot is limited to the amount of fuel you might need + 1 minute.
2. If the event is not time limited then total tank volume on any robot is limited to 1.5 liters.

Currently the event has no time limit, so the limit is 1.5 liters on any robot. Obviously more than that could be dangerous.

As mentioned elsewhere there is still some interest in large off road bots in Vic.

At the moment I think were mainly interested in getting them going.

What were going to do with them is a bit vague.

Anyway the reason for this post to share the happy news that I have acquired a pair of electric wheel chairs with 2 linear actuators for tilting the seat and another simple one with just the 2 drive motors.

Stage I is hooking up a esc and rx and having a play. Very Happy

I have glens Etek. Needless to say I've been toying with the idea of a big Foff off road drone (if it can be rc'd safely...) Could be fun... Laughing

Cool more the merrier.

One of my new wheel chairs had been retrofitted with bigger than standard motors and it has larger than normal Pneumatic tires on the castors as well as the drives.
Naturally that was the first to get moded. Smile

Fitted a Sidewinder and BR6000 and took it to the family Christmas get together.
No 3 son Jonathan had fun trying to stay on it while Matthew drove, then brother in law Dave [Kronos] cleaned up an outside table and a couple of plastic chairs with it.

It’s just the lower drive section I didn’t get the chair part so staying on it isn’t easy.

Might set one up as a lawn mower, Dave wants to fit a big esky to one, could turn one into a Mechanoid but without a paint ball gun that’s probably not a lot of use.
Feel like mounting my mig welder to one, there is the autonomous web cam security bot idea to.

I'm in the process of building on offroad robot.

Gary have you had a chance to make adapters for those wheel barrow wheels yet, so they can connect to the 80 tooth sprockets ?

My offroad robot is going to use 2 Oatley scooter motors and 350W controllers. I will control the Oatley controllers using a 28X picaxe to give PWM to the Oatley controllers (instead of the throttle) and use some DPDT relays for direction control.
Also thinking about putting a PC board (shock mounted with CF HDD) in it to provide heaps of I/O and provide some autonomy down the track.
