Well, I said i'd build an ant, and here it is... A full body spinner...!
Tested out the motor last night on spinning a veggie steamer (hehe, it flails out!). At 9v it's alittle slow, but gets there, 12v it goes real fast and gives some nice air sounds, and i intend to run it at 18v! I have no idea where i got it, but it's a real high torque motor. Wil post pics tonight. Intend to go high tech with B.B., so will order two plane ESC's, and run it at 9v. The weapon motor as it's so big will be run of a 15a micro switch setup. Also, are we guys sticking with a size limit?
Look out anto boys, bouncing betty's going to rip ya all to shreds! Twisted Evil Very Happy

darn it. im planning a full body spinner also.

Just gotta see if these motors i want to use fro drive can be controlled with the servo guts speed conttroller method as some american ants have done.

Also th 6 vlt motor from the kiddy car gearbo'x glen has will run it via belt drive at 9.6 volts i think it is.

GOnna start building the thing when theres time from Orbit and school work.

Also dont go too high tech with these things as there only for fun

Well, i'd be willing to use two hacked servo's instead if someone could show me how! Very Happy (would be cheaper, and work just as good.)
Also, where do we plan to fight? I was thinking of walling of a square against the side of the arena at jeffs.
Very Happy

Attached some bolts to the dome, and went testing! The power at 12v is amazing! Though it doesn't seem to spin too fast, it's way high torque (and Gforce!). Takeaway containers shred infront of it, and i sent a d size battery flying across my room! The disc slowed down, but spun up again real fast! Now for the radio gear! Very Happy

Hey, what's a good, cheap easy to find material to use as the base? Perspex is alittle fragile. Confused

Uh, glen... I dont think there's really any point having steel as a base plate. Andrew, that would be great! Maybe we'll finaly work out a deal with this car of mine... Very Happy

I SO WANT THAT CAR Smile

Yeah i have many scrap materials sitting in a bin although most id like to keep for future machines as when it runs out ill have to SPEND MONEY, NOOO. for more lexan etc etc.

i could give u some materials for feather and small robot though and all or assist in making a weopon or helping etc.

Hmmm, there's a REAL possibility that bouncing betty will become a Fire Bot... Just worked out afew designes with a servo controling the pencil torches nozzle, and a disposable camera flash unit as the sparking unit, also set of with a micro servo. Decided that car steering would be easiest to do, as i've already got one rotary speed controler, and finding an identical one seems pointless, so i'll use rear wheel steering, with the steering done by a servo. All of these parts should fit under 1.3kg. Smile

Got the pencil blow torch today, for $4.50, it's a real bargain, and puts out a nice, hot flame. the gas valve is also perfect, so i can hook up a servo mechanism to control on/off. now i'm just working out how to light the flame properly... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4660&item=7505594277&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
Hmm

These flash units are pretty small, and you'd get a pretty decent spark from 300v! Smile

Can anyone recommend a suitable spark-maker? preferebly one that doesn't interfere with the flame (like one that sparks "through" the flame, with the parts on either side. Smile

heh interesting.

most of the US ants use little toaster or hair drier elements that heat up and ignite the gas that comes from the mini pneumatics kits,

you know id still prefer you not play with fire Confused

Don't fear, the torch goes out from alittle side wind, and its not like i'm heavily modifying it, i'm just radio-controling a pencil blowtorch!

doubt it, i beleive they require something like 30,000v to spark such is my understanding.
