Ok I got bored while being on holiday and finished another drawing for Sidewinder. This one is only 75% the size of the other versions and would be armed with a flame thrower.

That makes 3 robots designed in 2 weeks.

I have to admit... Sidewinder is one of the nicest bots I've seen. Good engineering and pretty easy on the eyes.

Plus its so damn cool!

I just sent a drawing of a custom omni wheel to a factory I know in China. I have no idea if they will be made as I sent it to a girl who wants to make them without either of our bosses getting angry. But still possible free as they will be "samples". Very Happy
Now I just need the rollers for the wheels.

I'll have a sheet of 3mm x 2400 x 1200 steel sitting on my front lawn when I get home tomorrow. Unless some kid nicks it.

These are the rollers I want. 32 of them would be good, enough for 4 wheels.

By chance, did you ever test how the omni wheels go on carpet?
Interested out the performance of omni wheels on carpet for a non-combat idea.

I have the wheels and rollers as pdf's so I'll email them instead.
I drew the chasis around Banebot motors so the wheels and motor mounts need to be converted to take drill motors. That's not too much of a problem except my laptop has overheated too many times and doesn't like inventor anymore. I'll have to find quiet time at work to send you the motor mount drawings.

a can of air from jaycar blown in the air outlet vents (backwards to the normal direction of flow) often works wonders for clearing the dust and helping hot and bothered laptops keep cool.

Dont whoosh it for more than a brief blast (<1sec bursts), or you'll spin the weeny little fan up to 80k rpm and trash the bearings, making it noisy afterwards.

wouldnt that blow dust and crap all over the internals of the laptop?

No, the airflow path is usually fairly well sealed from intake vent to outlet, if it wasnt, then the fan wouldnt move air where its supposed to go and the cooling wouldnt work well.

And, even assuming it did, so what ? Dust on circuitry doesnt bother the circuitry greatly. Fans and heatsinks are about the only things you want to keep dust off. Maybe the CDRom drive reading lens, but if would be a stretch for it to get there, and you can just wipe that off anyway.

If its really bad, to the point where the laptop is overheating (usually about 75degrees CPU Temp) and shutting down regularly with even light use, then it is a better idea to disassemble it and clean it manually, but thats a long intricate job.

A few quick squirts of reverse air can clear the dust well enough to drop as much as 15-20 degrees off the CPU running temperature - Ive done it often.
