Well not really bad trading but people at jaycar told Glen that a car charger could be used with sla's and when he bought it he read in teh manual that he couldnt use it.

The jaycar people round here suck when it comes to general knowledge for what we need etc.

yep sure did.

jaycar and supercheap staff are very much ignorant of everything...

dont trust them. and if you want to buy something like a charger consult the forum first!

on the other hand the guys at hobbypro at st marys are very good.

you think Jaycar staff are bad ? Try Tandy or Dick Smith (not that I'd buy anything from them).

All in all, Jaycar do have some fairly cluey staff in places, but face it, if you were a skilled electronics tech or engineer, you'd hardly be jumping a counter at a shop now would you ?

Radio Parts (in melbourne) actually have the highest technically knowledgeable staff that I know of at present.

how about Stewart electronics. I have always found them to be very good.

But I have to say I haven't been there for a couple (or four) of years.

I dont think they exist anymore Ajax.. Sad

I agree, their staff used to be excellent, but I think they relied a lot on HAM radio sales for income, and the advent of the internet has really hurt the HAM Radio guys.

Why spend thousands on kilowatt radio transmitters and 50 foot high antenna's and having to study and get a licence to talk to someone on the otherside of the world for free, when now you can just shoot them an email from any street corner, or if you want voice, plug a microphone into your computer ?

So the radio sales died, and so did Stewarts.. Rockby Electronics http://www.rockby.com.au/ has taken over as far as the best range goes, but I havent grilled any of their staff to see what their technical nouse is like yet

Here's a good reason not to go to Dick Smiths. We went in one day and brought on of their $15 servos. It worked extremly well so we went back the next week planning on buying the complete stock before someone else did. The servos wern't on the shelf so we asked a sales assistant if they have any out the back. Here's some quotes from him:
"Whats a servo?"
"Whats it used for?"
"Whats it look like?"
"No we've never had anything like that"
"Next to the motors? Do we sell motors?"
"What, last week?"
"Well I've never seen them before"

I can find nearly any thing in Vic, and if I can't find it my old man will.

Still don't know how he finds some things that I have asked him to find Confused

Jay car staff have no idea what there talking about and dick smith they never have any idea on what they have in stock or what there selling and the amount of times i have brought stuff from dick smiths that has been faulty is total bullshit out of about 20 things i have brought 16 of em have been faulty and there expensive too compared to other places i brought a printer from dick smiths and i took it back 4 times changing it for the same printer and they all where faulty when i took the first two back the guy there tried to test it on one of the comps there it took him 2hrs to figure out how to install the thing what a wanker then he sed try this other one its the same price but a better quality print i tryed it and it was a shit printer so i took it back and changed it over for the one i wanted in the first place this time it worked but 4 months down the track im haveing the same prob as with the first two.

As of 10 minutes ago, I would have to add a surprise company; Robotic Power Solutions, makers of Battlepacks. I just recieved the following email:

quote:
You will need to order form Robot Combat Market Place. As of Sept 10, we will no longer be offering BattlePacks as in the past.

Intercooled 24V will be the only soldered high voltage packs that we produce.

thanks,

Steve Hill
Robotic Power Solutions

Its really disheartening to see they are not supporting their products either!

I sent an email to Jim @ RCM, asking all those questions. I really need to get my damaged pack repaired (needs soldering and new shrink wrap), plus another pack so I can cycle them around and allow them to cool off between matches.

I think that either Jim has done an exclusive deal with Robotic Power Solutions, or he has become so annoyed withtheir late deliveries (ie Jeff F's packs) that he has gone elsewhere. I will pass on his reply.

I just had a reply from Jim at RCM, it looks like Battlepacks will be no more from next month:

quote:
Yes, I'm aware of what Steve is doing, although I don't thoroughly understand it. We are still taking orders for BattlePacks through our site, turnaround time is still about 4-7 days before shipping out. You might want to get your order in soon though. International shipping definitely takes longer unless you want to pay extra. Also, we may or may not be carrying these packs this time next month.

Looks like Jake may corner the market in locally made packs Smile
