nah lockjaw was plagued with issues and was scrapped and alot of its parts use in other projects.
I am interested in making another larger robot once i get around to getting my rs80d controller repaired but wont be anything going anytime soon and if i do go larger ill prob be a lightweight as theres actual competition _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

Vertex v Scatch hey that would be very interesting!,
well brissy is the same distance from here to sydney so maybe a lil later down the track when i get him hitting harder fora nice lil hole in your covers
Its a pity about Lockjaw, i think i will end up pulling bits outta Scratch for a feather, i have got sketches coming outta my ears, but it'll have to wait till after the HSC in October.
How much pace has Vertex got?

On Paper it should do around 25-30kph probaly more like 18 to 20 in real life .

That is pretty quick on both accounts. but at 18kph it couldnt have much pushing power espesh running wiper motors. But then i i guess you don't really need speed if you have an effectivwe weapon. Razer had two gold caddy motors right.
this bloody weather has been blocking our satellite internet for the last few days!

Vertex runs a pair of 12v Briggs & Straton PMDC (~4HP) starter motors @ 24v for the drive. Not very effecient motors, they love a good 400+ amps, but definately goes better then when we had it to run ww motors _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

Vertex started off with 4xwwmotors i did various mods but ended up ditching them as they were too slow.
I then tried two car alternators conveted into A/C 3 phase 0to 36 volt motors and speed was controled by driveig them off the I/C engine with another alternator that had the diodes removed speed was controled via I/C engine revs .This was abandoned as the A/c inductoin motors had very low starting torque and would stalland lose torque if they went too far out of syncronisation with the driveing alternator under loaded conditions .
Vertex then got a pair of modified power steering pumps set up as vane motors and powered by a single power steering pump run from the i/c engine,control for speed and direction was to be through modified rotary power steering controls with a small geared d/c motor to put torque on the rotary valve in which ever direction it had to go .I never finished the project as it turned out too heavy and too many moveing parts to control but would have worked i also dint have the tools to finish the mods on the pumps properly .
Its final drive that is in it today is made from two Brigs and Straton 12 volt starter motors off of 12 hP ride on mower engines
.These were modified and timed to run both directions .They should give about 16 hp on 24 volts each in theory.
They pull well over 350 amps close to stall on 12 volts i have not tried a stall test on 24 volts .
We have only had one test drive with the set up so far under radio control and that was useing an old car battery it went fairly well but when i measured the voltage at the motor s at the time they were only getting 7.3 volts .We have not driven it at all on 24volts yet with the sla batteries.

Hi there!- I currently have 3 bots, Razorback(lightweight),Grimlock currently in the build phase(medium weight-60-75kg). the third bot is a heavyweight(could way in around 100-110kg-the design work is done-and have the motors and tracks(yes tracks!) I picked up a set of Rex Tabletop 100mmwide stainless steel tracks at fox on Star Wars 3-they tossed them in the skip!!-unnamed as yet, it,ll be an invertable tank with hydraulic crusher pincers Grimlock
is also a crusher, with 1500pound (680kg) jaws and rear spike. I want build a big one for the ultimate challange of it (done a lot tracked jobs in the past-including a tracked pipe crawler for checking gas mains under the city!!!),hate to waste the free tracks and it would make a coooollll demo robot-chomping old up tvs etc!!-love to hear from other heavy builders, who knows, get two or more
together and we got us a fight!! yeehaaw![/img]

Gday Jason, I noticed from your profile when you first logged on that you might be a serious builder.
Welcome to the Forum’s I am Gary from the Rotwang Team; we have a heavy and a middleweight a couple of lights and a number of feathers and a few other odds and ends.
As far as the bigger Bots go the plan was http://www.robowars.org/info-rules.html originally but the Feather comp really caught on and not a lot has happened with the big bots.
Another competition called Ultibots is being pushed along by a few of us, these are picks from out first trial event.
At the moment a few of us are still trying to get something going with the Big Bots.
We have access to a nice Whovian Quarry and if we ever get our act together wont to at least end up with some entertaining video.

Don't want to be annoying, but hydraulic jaws... We in Europe rate them in tons... even the gentle hugger Tough As Nails puts 1.5 tons of force on the tips.
The smallest hydraulic ram I have is rated at 2 tons.

Not an hydraulic crusher, but pneumatic. The ram in the back develops 4 tons of force over a travel of 354mm. Total weight of that ram, including motorsupports is 11 kg.
Unfortunatly, I don't have a picture of the finished New Tiberius IV.
Oh well, have fun looking trough this load of robot wars pictures.
