Hi Philip,

Sorry it took a few days to get to finding and uploading them for you. you can find the flyers from the most recent event here

http://www.robowars.org/images/flyers/

I have the Photoshop files as well if you wont to modify them to suit some other application. However, they are 45meg for the color front and 8 meg for the back, so I wont upload them unless you particularly want them..

Are they what you had in mind, or did you mean something else ?

Thanks, Brett. I was hoping to find a flier that had a little robot info and advertised this website. It would be good to have someone who is good with layouts to make something which could be printed by anyone and encourage people to have a go.

One of the boat guys said that he found the site and saw some videos.

OK, I've uploaded a copy of the "Business Cards" pdf that I made.
(same location as the link in my prior message)

Its basically a bunch of business-card sized images tiled on a sheet, with just the website address and Scoopy Doo as an image (being a very visual bot).

I give the PDF to Snap printing and they will print however many sheets you want on card paper and guillotine them and give you a nice little box of cards you can hand out.

I could put some more information in black on the back, but that would increase the printing cost and deprive people of a space to scribble notes, phone numbers or whatever. Smile

Is that what you had in mind ?

That is the sort of thing I was after. I was thinking it could be a simple flier that each of us could print at home to hand out to whomever may be interested. The more common FAQs could be added on an A4 sized sheet of paper.

a FAQ sheet is a good idea.

I was fiddling around with the idea of adding some WIKI pages to the RoboWars site for that sort of thing. (a WIKI is a user-editable set of web pages), so everyone can contribute to the bit they want,
Some examples of RoboWars Wiki's are here..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot_Wars
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlebots

If anyone feels like updating those Wiki entries with some info on the scene in Australia, go ahead, but try and keep it professional sounding and neatly done.. I've bean meaning to add some links to our site so people know its happening here in Aus, but havent got to that yet. Theres a promotional opportunity

Does anyone like the idea of a RoboWars Wiki (and willing to contribute to it ? Its kind of like the Ultimate Guides section, but would look more like a web-page rather than a forum)

--

Perhaps we could compile a list of the top questions people ask about bots and I will type something up when I'm in one of my mega-post moods.. Smile

If that seems like a good idea, start a thread on suggested questions for a FAQ sheet and once the dust settles, I'll see about filling in some answers in my wordy style Smile

Maybe a simple robot build thread made into a guide "how to build a simple compeditive featherweight robot!"
like using two drills and microswitching. Smile

And another promotional opportunity for you Northern (Qld) Guys.

The people from the "Ideas Festival" http://www.ideasfestival.com.au contacted me about having some Robots (and hopefully a RoboWars event) at their Festival a little while ago.

I provided them some rough costing estimates on trucking the portable Sidetracked arena up there and the various associated costs with running an event and havent heard back from them since, so I guess I scared them off.. Sad

However, they did say if they couldnt swing the budget to run a full event, they would be interested in having demonstrations and exhibits from the local RoboWarriors, so if some of you guys feel like putting on a bit of display, it looks like it would be worth your time.

Judging by their website, they look like they might be a reasonably big event. Some possible good publicity for you there..

The lady I was talking to is Janet Marles - janet@ideasfestival.com.au

Perhaps a few of you could kick around some ideas for a nice display and let her know you are available ?

What does everyone think of the above? It doesn't look like the sort of event that would want robots, but why else would they contact Brett?

Brett, would you please post Janet's enquiry?

Hello Brett

We saw your article in "The Big Issue" and wondered whether it was possible
to arrange a robowar demonstration / exhibition at our Ideas Festival.

The Ideas Festival is a four day festival of ideas, innovation and invention, to be held at South Bank, Brisbane, Australia from 29 March - 2 April 2006.

The Ideas Festival with lectures, demonstrations, debates, panels and
exhibitions is open to all and mostly free. The Ideas Festival offers something for all, drawing new audiences into the celebration, discussion and debate of ideas and innovation. It is proudly presented by the Queensland Government with major sponsors Griffith University and the Brisbane Airport Corporation - Visit http://www.ideasfestival.com.au for further details and to subscribe for email updates.

Please email me if you are interested in being a part of the Ideas Festival.
Regards

Hi Brett

Thanks for your informative email. - Can you give me a rough estimate of the costs involved in conducting a full RoboWar?

The Ideas Festival program aims to provide 70% of its content free to audiences and so our budget is limited, however, I'd like to pursue the possibility of conducting a Robowar a little further.

Are there any conventions or annual events that your members may be involved in that could be housed through the Ideas Festival? The dates are : 29th March - 2nd April 2006.

Failing that we'd be interested in demonstrations and exhibits possible from the local 'Robowarriors' (is that a term you use?).

Regards
Janet

Do any QLDers have any thoughts on the above? I would like to see new builders attracted to this sport.

This is typical of the state government. Beatie has said that he is looking at shutting down access to specialist treatment at public hospitals for lack of money, but he does have money to go to a mass debate.

.... and Beattie has money for a state-paid for under-water road tunnel (for Bris traffic) yet outside of Bris all the roads are crap.

Back on topic... the more exposure we can get (the same as with anything) the better it will get over time. If we attract 1 new active person from every 2 demos we will be doing very well.
