The new camera has arrived!

I didn't bother reading the manual, I discovered how to use it while taking these pics:

This how the underneath of Slash is shaping up; the motor mounts just need to be screwed to the frame and a few more screws in the weapon
hub.






This is the detail on the belt drive - very compact and hopefully hard for other bots to damage.





This is the inside, showing the Axi motor on it's mounting plate. I made slots for the three screws to ride in so the blet can be tensioned.





Now that the mechanicals are almost done, its definitely time to wire up the controller and try a weapon spin up.

A full test for sure!

I fixed the small pulley on the motor shaft - I Dremeled a notch on the shaft for the grub screw, put Locktite 609 retaining glue on the shaft and 262 stud lock on the grub screw. I have not used the 609 before - its an evil green colour and the instructions say "Don't use on parts that cannot be positioned in 30 seconds". I don't think that pulley will ever come off !

After that, I just had to try a spin-up. With the chassis clamped to the benchhhhhhhh and a fresh 14.4V pack, I read 4,600 rpm with the tacho. That means the Axi is going at 19,700 rpm under load - next thing is a current test and I might be able to shoot a short video on the new camera.

The disk makes an ear-piercing scream at full speed and for everyone's benefit (but mainly so Slash doesn't self destruct), I think it's best to never run this thing at full speed in the arena.

One of the robots in america a ver ali disc spinner powered by a wattage called electric lettuce does awesome damage and is very powerful and has a 350g blade but im guessing less speed arounds.

Slash will be onecool bot thats for sure

Turn the volume way up before playing the clip ! The bot is upside-down and clamped to the bench for safety. I am slowly increasing & decreasing the speed with the radio during the test; the minimum spin up time to full speed is probably under 2 sec.

Me too! That's why I was thinking about limiting the top speed. If the wheels have enough grip, the bot may not spin as the non-moving mass is around 1Kg while the disk is around 200 grams. I guess we will find out at the build day. The other option is to use a smarter controller that ramps up the speed over a few seconds.
