THE LOCKJAW PROJECT
Hello everybody,
For the last couple of months u may have heard me mention something about a metalwork project that i was doing.
Well i was able to get it finished as good as possible yesterday.
It is made from around 20plus metres of 30 x30 square hollow section.
Uses 4 300 watt drive setups from oatley
has a rs80d for controll
threehawkers for battery power.
4 inflatable trolley wheels
Well this project has taken me around 9 or so months to build on and off between school and other commitments. Every spare moment i had in school for the last 5 months was spent on this thing and before school and after school. Soo much work.
I luv this thing no matter what people say but this project pushed me to my limits both physically and mentally. Especially when u spend 2 days wiring the thing to get it running for around 10 mins of video then u gotta tear it apart again and paint it :S
But at school EVERYBODY has been totally into it and they certainly cant walk past it without staring and gawking at it. I am famous around the school and everybody who see's it tells me " thats insane", "thats so cool", or my personal favourite, "your crazy". teachers and students alike just love it and really love it as its something completely different to any other project (barbecue, table etc).
BUT if somebody asks another stuipid question again like "how does it turn" or "is it driving yet" im gonna murder them.
The project weighs around 100kg im guessing easy plus.
Looking great Andrew ... bring it up here and let it play with vertex

as long as you drove in circles and dont come too close to the disc you would win vertex dosnt have any speed controls at the moment lol so so can only sit and spin its disc

Thanks aaron and tall.
It requires some rewiring and a little work to get unning properly again but nothing major.
The breif 10 or so mins i could get it to move back and forth was fun.
The main thing i wanna do is ride this thing nar kart style _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

You were in the same postion as i am now! i'm not as orginal as i thought
Your bot turned out sweet and it seems like you had a complex design with that weapon.
Very cool, it still running today?

haham thanx man
No it was too heavy/big to be fun and easy to play with, the few times i could get it driving straight forward and backwards and shiz it had alot odf speed and power
over 100kg going towards u at like 20 km/h is well interesting, the weopon setup never worked 100% under rc but when ti worked it was prety funky looking and cool.
Its now in pieces and its parts will be re used in other things, glen getting a actuator and im using others in featherweight maybe and drives in lightweight and electric bike project and shizzle.
whatever u do when designing/making yor robot keep it smallish and original but not stupidly complex, mine got alot of attention and looks and stuff but in running and working it wasnt the greatest. _________________ Andrew Welch, Team Unconventional Robotics

Hey Andrew,
You snuck this one by me other than the odd rumours.
Fantastic job!! I bet you got bonus points for the project!
We would have loved to see it running around here but if you are stripping it for other projects, I am wanting to ressurect Refbot and was planning to put in two 300 watt drives like half of what you got with Oatley stuff.
If you would be interested, I could buy the drives/ chains/wheels from you and/or share in the project to bring Refbot back. The head still works great and I have all the parts for the lifting crane.
I had problems working out the crane but realised the simplest solution with one drill trigger, two micro switches wired up for braking.
I can still use the car horn for match on and off with lights but muffle the horn a bit so it does not upset Jake too much.
