how hot do those whipper snipper engines get? mine seems to get too hot to touch on the exhaust and cylinder case after about a minute. not sure if its a motor problem or if thats how they run. on a side note since i cleared it up and re-assembled the pull starter it works great! first time starter Smile

now to get a chainsaw motor Cool

They do burn petrol inside them at very high temps so they will get hot lol especialy if you are trying to run it with the covers off.if you are doing that then you have basicly disabled the cooling system ..the exaust wil get hot enough t light a smoke from iff you are putting it under load ..a lot of those small motors you can see the exaust glow when you are workign them hard late in the afternon or dark .. Very Happy thats one of the reasons you shoouldnt refuel them until they have had a few minutes sittiing to cool down

probbly an idea to stay out of its "plane of rotation" and away from the bit what things get thrown out of too if you dont trust it ;->

I wouldnt take the head off because as a rule you need to replace the head gasket then (well you do in a car anyway) in that its probbly just some funky paper but eh sombody else will know more about it than i do.
(generally regarded as a big job)

if its running then it shouldnt be a problem (well unless you want to build that super charger and polish the valves and all that other crap ;->)

i reckon you want to put one of them scooter motors on the output shaft direct drive ;-> got yer starter motor and power distribution system all in one then ;->

Most of the smaller 2 stroke motors dont have a seperate cylinder head as the head is usualy machined as part of the cylinder .If you do remove the cylinder be carefull that the rings dont get caught in the ports (ie) slide the cylinder off the piston makeing sure that you dont rotate the cylinder at all putting it back on is the reverse procedure makeing sure you use a ring compresor so the rings dont stick and get broken .Iff you are extra carefull the crank case gasket can be reused iff it hasnt been damaged torn or glued on as its on the low compresion cooler inlet side of the engine .When you clean out the cylinder and ports be carefull not to score the bore or the piston .When re asembling the engine make sure that the rings are in their groves and that the ring gaps are lined up with the small spigots in the groves as these hold the rings in the right positions so they dont get caught in the ports . Unles the motor is running poorly to start with i dont recomend striping them down .Cleaning the ports can be done externaly with care and i find that sometimes a bit of hardened carbon build up in the top of the cylinder head will actualy give the motor more compresion and power as long as its not causeing pre ignition leave it there .

Hey Glen, this might be of some interest to you.
Originally found this guy from his big T34 but his engineering products look pretty cool. Some tank builders wanted combustion engines so he has made some interesting transmission products.
It might give you some ideas anyway.

For our standard arena combat, flame throwers arn't allowed... and gas engines are being considered (they might be allowed if someone actualy makes one). If you want to make a flame thrower do it for the new ultibot competition. Smile k?

at marayong no ice engines until someone gets round to putting some proper ventilation in the arena otherwise youd basically get gassed on the exhaust fumes.

reverse youd need a specialised gearbox and clutch setup... which is gunna be getting pretty hardcore engineering wise. gearing you just stick a sprocket, pulley what have you on the end of the output shaft. or if they have a clutch i believe you have to somehow mount the pulley behind the clutch bell or something.
