Do BECs work with IR controllers? _________________ It seemed like a good idea on paper...

If you can get your hands on a 12V Bec which is
controlled by a 7812 (3pin) regulator, you could replace
that part with a 7809 one of the same current scale.
(They are pin for pin identical as long as it looks the same)
Or I could give you a circuit diagram for one if your basically
handy with a soldering iron...
