18 v drill speed control on 24 v

I am thinking of putting an 18 v drill speed controller into a 24 v electric scooter. Will it survive or release the magic smoke? The drill speed controller is of no use to me so I don't really care if it fails.

I'm guessing there will be smoke. The controller is probably OK with 24V, but not the current.

i thought scooters drew way less amps than a drill? I thought it would be ok.

I ran scooters off the 40amp botbitz esc on 6s without a problem for judge mental last year.

I believe back in the day Jeff did something similar for one of his robots, but I think he used two in parallel.

It worked. There might be something wrong with the drive or I am too heavy for the scooter. I stalled the motor trying to drive up hill. The circuit breaker popped, but the trigger still works.

Scooters are awesome, but so damn heavy and the chains fall off….the planetary gearboxes on them are epic but to heavy….I say get 775magnums…if you can track some down.

What was the wattage on the scooter motor? Maybe its time I dug out some of the Ozito drill controllers from the rubbish pile. I wonder what would happen if the FETs on the controllers were paralleled?

It was one of the small scooter motors. I think they are only 100 W. I also ran an unloaded 18 v drill on 24 v. You've got nothing to lose by trying your left over drill parts.

Hey Philip what gearing did you have on the scooter when it stalled on the hill?

It was just the standard gearing and wheels. It probably was not designed for a near 90 kg load going up hill.
