Shocked

Ive been thinking about just making a flipper bot, it would only cost an extra $50 and I could use an old car actuator as a weapon, does this sound efficient?

I don't kbow what wtf mean's, but if it is: What is a car actuator, it's the thing that open's a car door when you press a small remote control.

A car door actuator isn't strong enough to lift a featherweight. Your better off at looking at a Car Seat Actuator....

or for best results a bus seat actuator (have you seen the size of most bus drivers no disrespect to em but DAMN those actuators would have to be rated for 400kg or something)

Sounds good Shaunington but yeah looks like you will need that bus seat actuator becauseu will need quite a lot of power to lift another featherweight like TDT said. What about those automatic door motors? The one's that open and close those door in shopping centres and other places like that? would they be useful?

shopping centre glass sliding door motors are most likely AC high voltage motors and also probably very large and heavy for their output power.

These motors will most likely need 240Volts and since we have 48volt limit under the rules there out.

test frame= GREAT idea

what you might wanna try instead of a bus seat actuator (you would have to find a wrecked bus that is prity darn new wich is gonna be hard) ou could try making something up using a drill motor a nut and some threaded rod (see pinsher or maby woodzilla's build thread or ask glen or george for help on em)

Smile it would be easier to get the parts for em Smile

(did i ever mention i hate typeing on my boss' laptop the keys suck ass

mmmm ok I still woulod like to know how the bus/car seat actuators work though and what you would need them in a car for. Are they the things that move your seeat around in the newer models of car?

Yes, Scoopy Doo uses a car-seat actuator to move the Saw-arm.

They work on the same principle as a bolt with a nut on it. The motor rotates the bolt clockwise or anticlockwise, and the nut slides back and forth along the bolts thread. The nut then has an arm or sleeve attached to it that moves with the nut.

The ideas is, they change rotational (round and round) movement from a motor into linear (back and forwards) straight line movement.

They are quite powerful (torque) for the relatively low amount of battery power they use, but typically very slow with not much movement, so you need to use use linkages and levers to "gear them up" and make them move faster and further, but with less force.

Sorry I haven's been on in a while. The actuator using the drill sound's good.

So:

1.) would that move fast enough to be classified a a flipper, if~

2.)

So could I use a small hydrolic system attatched to this to double it's force?

I could use a peice of tubing to link the two bulkhead's of the hydrolic's, the smaller one on the actuator mechanism and the larger one on the flipper.

Also, I've got my drill motor's mounted on my test-bot and batteries are put down using 4 bracket's that fit onto the drill motor and some alluminium plate thet goes over them, bust still leaving open the - and + battery end's, would this idea work on my proper robot or would the bottom eventually shake loose?

Thank's all.
